Abaddon Incarnate

Abaddon Incarnate

SOURCE – Congratulations on your new record Pessimist, I feel that this is perhaps your best record ever, how do you feel about this statement?

Steve Maher (Vocals, Guitar) – Thanks you for the compliment. Yes we are very happy with this record, its honest, grim, heavy grindcore. I feel we have finally found our identity here. The line up is pretty good now, and this is the music we all like so its come out quite beautifully so yes we are every happy with this release.

SOURCE – After having been together for such a long time, does that make it harder or easier to come up with new material?

Steve Maher (Vocals, Guitar) – Easier I guess, Because we have been playing together for so long we can write faster and be honest with each other without pissing each other off.

SOURCE – What’s your take on the influence of the Internet on the music business? Did it help Abaddon Incarnate reach a wider audience or diminish record sales because of illegal downloads?

Steve Maher (Vocals, Guitar) – Both of these is true, because of the internet we have been able to talk with people in Russia and South America and make some cool tours and spread the name but yes illegal downloads has reduced album sales by maybe 90% its crazy but unavoidable.

SOURCE – Is it still the same kinds of bands that inspire Abaddon Incarnate today, or are there newer influences that impact on you as well?

Steve Maher (Vocals, Guitar) – There is still the old death and grind bands like Morbid Angel, Terrorizer, Napalm Death, etc… but there is also a lot of new bands as well, especially in the crust, grind and hardcore scene that would influence us such as PLF, The Secret or Victims, etc… between the four of us we’d have a fairly varied amount of influences.

SOURCE – In Brazil there’s much fans listening your kind of music. What do you know about the Brazil?

Bill Whelan (Vocals, Guitar) – We haven’t toured Brazil yet unfortunately so we haven’t had the chance to see what its like. However we have heard that the Brazilian scene is excellent and that the fans go crazy for metal over there, especially at gigs!

SOURCE – If a metal fan comes to visit Dublin, what would they see and do?

Bill Whelan (Vocals, Guitar) – Most likely go to a few rock bars, hit a gig or two and end up on drunk walking around Grafton street or back at some random house party singing metal tunes ‘balls to the wall’.

SOURCE – How much trouble do you have with day jobs conflicting with touring and general band responsibilities?

Steve Maher (Vocals, Guitar) – I have big problems at the moment, as I live in the UK so on my days off I must travel to Dublin to rehearse, so the day job has to stop or cut back on hours because I am not really satisfied with my input to the band in the last year or so. This is why its been so long to get the album out.

SOURCE – What are the plans for the future? Have you written some new material and when could we expect the next release?

Bill Whelan (Vocals, Guitar) – We have written 4 new songs. We will may record a split with another band. We would like to have another album out next year. Our writing process has become more prolific lately when we rehearse so we hope to release music more frequently than before.

SOURCE – Any chance of a Brazilian tour?

Bill Whelan (Vocals, Guitar) – There are no definite plans at the moment. We were disappointed that we could’t make it to Brazil on our tour of South America in 2011, but we have spoken about touring South America again, so perhaps in 2015 or 2016 we will finally make a Brazilian invasion!

SOURCE – That would be all for this time, thank you for the interview, and I wish you all the best! Your last message to fans over here?

Bill Whelan (Vocals, Guitar) – Thanks for taking the time to do the interview with us Falber, its much appreciated. To our fans, thanks for listening to our music and we hope to see you at a gig sometime soon – grind on!
