Anubis Gate

SOURCE – How did the new members, especially a new vocalist, impact the band’s sound on this Ep Sheep?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – Michael co-wrote the music to Destined To Remember with me so obviously he had an impact on the direction there. Other that that he plays certain things a bit “broader” than me so that added a new color to the palette.

Morten Gade Sørensen plays drums more “pushy” than our old drummer (with almost the same name) did so the groves and the “swing” of the band is a bit different. With regards to vocals we can’t really say Henrik is new anymore, as he was the lead vocalist on the last full length as well. Nevertheless Henrik is an outstanding vocalist, and his sense of melody and almost jazzy vocal harmonies are fantastic.

SOURCE – How have you found the reaction to Sheep so far?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – Really really good. To be honest i didn’t expect too many reviewers to pick up on a free “inbetween” release. But they have, and almost all have liked it very much. And most importantly, the fans have really taken it to their hearts.

SOURCE – How did you decide to cover Sheep and Broken Wings?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – I lobbied for Sheep. I’ve always been a huge fan of Pink Floyds Animals album. And I just had a feeling that Sheep would sound almost like something we had written ourself if we covered it. The others were fine with giving it a shot and it turned out pretty good. Broken Wings is a favorite of Henriks. Apart from that some fans suggested it a couple of years ago and somehow we had the same feeling about this one that it would lend itself well to our sound.

SOURCE – What are your expectations for the Horizons album?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – Absolute world domination LOOOOL. Well it’s certainly one of our best albums (if not the best yet) so I think it’ll go down well. There is always the thing about two new members, some people will be apprehensive and we’ll have to win them over. But i think they’ll see that it hasn’t hurt the band.

That is no slight on Jesper and Morten, they were fantastic in Anubis Gate. And so are the new people Michael and Morten. (Yes it’s confusing having an ex drummer called Morten Sørensen replaced by a new drummer called Morten Gade Sørensen.

SOURCE – Have you or are there plans to shoot a video for that song or any others on the album?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – We will probably do one for a track called NEVER LIKE THIS.

SOURCE – What are your upcoming South America tour plans?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – There are no plans at the moment. We wish there was, but touring is insanely expensive and we are frankly not prepared to pay out of our own pockets.

SOURCE – Who are your top 5 Danish metal/rock bands of all time?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – Oh that is a hard one. King Diamond is awesome. He would be my personal number one. There are many good bands in Denmark and it’s hard to pick some out on the expense of others.

SOURCE – How does the band’s awareness and popularity in Europe compare to Denmark?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – We are probably more known in USA and the rest of Europe than in our home country. The Danish metal audience prefer their metal more extreme than we like to play it. As soon as the vocals are melodic you can kinda forget about getting festival gigs etc here in Denmark.

SOURCE – What are your hobbies and interests outside of music?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – I like to play Squash.

SOURCE – Anything else you would like to add or think the readers should know about you guys?

Kim Olesen (Guitars) – Nothing really except: Stay tuned for this spring and the release of HORIZONS.
