SOURCE – What will you remember most about the recording of the album “Gates Of Dalhalla”?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – The nice atmoshere, the nice venue and the hang with the special guests.
I also will remember the pre party the day before. I drank some of the new Hammerfall-wine and started singing lyrics from Mexican filth metal band Bakteria (well known in the filth-metal scene). The only two that enjoied it was my girlfriend and Joacim’s mother.
SOURCE – Can you believe Hammerfall has been a band for fifteen years? Did you ever think than you’d last this long?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – Hehe… no. I thought I would last a year or two. But the guys are great and we have done fun things. And seen interesting places.
SOURCE – Is it ever hard to keep up the energy and creativity after so many years?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – No, with the responce from the fans it makes it possible. If our popularity gets lower it might be harder.
SOURCE – Why should your fans buy “Gates Of Dalhalla”?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – It’s different than the usual band-dvd’s from ordinairy venues. It’s longer, it has songs thru the whole bands career, it has members from the past like Stefan Elmgren (which whom I play in another band called Fullforce see below).
SOURCE – What does heavy metal mean to you personally?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – It means: double bass, hard riffs, melodic singing and leather, demin, studs and long hair.
SOURCE – To make any type of money nowadays, fans have to buy T-shirts and go to live shows to support the band. How important to you is perfecting the band’s live show?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – Economically it is important but we are an old well known band and our fans still buy records as well as downloading legaly. We have an exellent label in Nuclear Blast Records that promots our stuff well. But for sure illegal downloading is a problem. All band must go out on the road and that makes it harder since the fans can’t see all shows by all bands. Again, it helps being one of the bigger bands. But hard on the smaller ones, I guess.
SOURCE – Since you’re a band with such a strong presence on the Internet, and the album did well anyway, does it bother you when people ‘illegally’ download your music?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – Yes, it does. But what can you do? Maybe if the goverments closed all these well known sites it would help. But I guess they would just pop back up in Togo or Africa instead.
SOURCE – Do you guys have any plans to tour South America anytime soon?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – Not soon, we are in a period of writing songs and not touring right now. We’ll see. It’s always nice down there.
SOURCE – Any other projects you’ve been working on?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – Yes, Fullforce’s second album with Stefan Elmgren. Have a new album out “Next level”.
SOURCE – Care to say something to your fans?
Anders Johansson (Drums) – Demin… and leather… Keeps us all together!
