SOURCE - Your newest album to me represents an excellent progression for CATARACT. Could you tell to fans some info about this CD ?
SIMON FULLEMAN (G) - Thank you first of all! We think so too. This is CD shows exactly how we are. Brutal, heavy and in your face. It was done again with famous producer Tue Madson of THE HAUNTED, HEAVEN SHALL BURN fame! He made a huge sound. Very brutal. We progressed a lot as musicians between that last CD and this one.

We toured for like 9 months with bands like MAROON, SIX FEET UNDER, DYING FETUS, AMON AMARTH and others. This left quit some inpression on us. I guess, it's our strongest and most varied release so far.

SOURCE - How is everything in the CATARACT camp after the release of "Kingdom"?
SF -  Very good!!! We have set everything for a loooong touring period. We will be doing all summer festivals over here, then we do www.hellonearthtour.de. After that another tour is on it's way, but it's still a secret.

December will see us most likely on the Xmas Metal Festival Tour with KRISIUN and others! Next year we plan to come to US and South America finally! We just need the right contacts for down there.

SOURCE - Can you tell something about the production of "Kingdom". Where there any complications or did it all go as planned?
SF - Well, it went very well all in all. We just had some problem on 2 songs which we didn’t know how to arrange until we entered the studio.

Tue helped us a lot on that. As usual we wrote our songs and recorded them for us. Worked again on them and sent them to Tue Madsen and he gave some advise too. So it all went very smooth and as planned. We are quit used to that until now.

SOURCE - Let´s talk about the so-called 'Metalcore'-movement. Some people say one shouldn´t mix styles and ideologies that obviously don´t belong together, like Metal and Hardcore...
SF - Well, I can see why they say that. And you can see that so called Metalcore bands like UNEARTH or us or HEAVEN SHALL BURN more and more lean to one side. Mostly Metal. Also in the look. You know, it's always good to find new ways to express things. I honstely think that Metalcore won't be existing anymore in a few years and will all be called Metal again.

Metalcore is just an expression that came up because of looks, not based on music! Short hair, different lyrics, but playing metal. That can’t be a metal band, they said. But now, it's all coming together and the good bands will be metal, the future Metal as it looks like at least over here. We are not even called Metalcore anymore over here. Now that we have Metalheads in the band, eveybody calls us a Metal band with intelligent lyrics. Which is cool to me. You should mix styles! Only like this you have a progression in anything. You always need progression beside stuff that stays the same.

SOURCE - Without a doubt you are a Metalcore band with your really own style. Do you work much on this or is it just your way to write the songs?
SF – It’s both. We practise and play a lot. So it comes all with that. We want to be different and we are, but playing a lot helps to go that way. So we work much, true.

SOURCE - What do you see as CATARACT's musical strengths ?
SF - We are a stong collective. We all now how play our instruments. We are all very creative and we always agree on things. It's not a one man show. It’s a true band. That makes us proud. We also know, that we can always create something new. Our heads are never ever empty. We are like a consperacy. Everyone pushes the other guys. A true band.

SOURCE - How are things in the Swiss rock/metal scene?
SF - Great!!! We have a strong and growing scene. Doesn’t matter if Metal or Hardcore. There are quit some bands like DISPARAGED, REQUIEM or the re-united CELTIC FROST that are amazing in Metal. Beside that we bands like DARK DAY DUNGEON or DESPISE that keep the Flag of Hardcore high in the air.

We have two small magazines that just started out and tons of clubs and shows. Every show for us at least is crazy good!

SOURCE - Are there any up and coming bands around the area that have caught your attention?
SF - AS GRAVITY FADES with female vocalist…but I guess they broke up again. And of course REQUIEM ! Very good band!

SOURCE - In Brazil there's much fans listening your kind of music. What do you know about the Brazil ?
SF - Ou, I have only been to Venezuela so far in my life. I heard that from our friends in HEAVEN SHALL BURN!!! We want to come down and get to know your country.

You know we don’t like to judge on a country we only know through media or people that we meet. It would be great to come down there someday. It's on my and ours list. We know that you have nice people, cool and good bands. I like Liberation Records a lot and also the bands on there. I especially like NUEVA ETICA ! Great band.  New CD rocks.

SOURCE - What do you do in your ordinary life to make a living? Would you rather do music full-time if you were given the possibility?
SF - I do music for my life. I work at Metal Blade Europe. I couldn’t do anything else. Music is my life. Music means everything to me. This is perfect. O.k., if I would have the possibilety to earn money with the bands like crazy, that would be even better. But for now I am totally happy.

SOURCE - What are the main bands, heavy metal magazines and webzines in Swiss for you ?
SF - www.pitfire.net, www.metalfactory.ch and www.heavymetal.ch. There is also a cool board www.metalforum.ch.vu which is cool for discussions.

Print magazines you have the same here as in Germany: Rock Hard, Metal Hammer, Legacy, Heavy, Metal Heart and some smaller magazines.
