myGRAIN

SOURCE - So, for those who don't know MY GRAIN yet, let's begin the interview by talking a little bit about your musical background and the band history?
RESISTOR (G) - myGRAIN saw the daylight in the summer of 2004, as Tommy (V), Resistor (G) and Matthew (G) were standing on the ruins of their former band. We had been playing together since 1999 and as our collaboration still worked well, we though to start a new band with this lineup.

The main idea from the beginning was to play rough metal with melodies. DJ Locomotive (D) and Eve (S) joined the band quite soon and lineup was almost finished. Jonas handled the bass for the two self-financed demo CDs and after recording the second one, "The Red Frame" in April 2005, he permanently joined the band. A few weeks after the recordings Spinefarm Records contacted us and we inked a deal.

S - Your new album "Orbit Dance" is out for a little while now, how was the response to this output so far?
TOMMY (V) - The reactions have mainly been positive and great, although there’s been all kinds of response. Some people really like this kind of music and some of them don’t like it at all.. But things have started pretty well, I think. The album kicks some serious ass!

S - Can you tell me what is the meaning of the initials "W.I.F." ?
T - "World In Frames"... one can find the meaning behind the song, or not ... Those lyrics can be interpretated in many ways.. There’s been some jokes related to that name also...

S - Having only heard "Orbit Dance", how does it stack up with your earlier records ?
R - Well "Orbit Dance" is our first full length album. We have made two demos before we got signed with Spinefarm Records.
The first demo was more of this 'attitude metal', but the second one "The Red Frame" had more melodies and also keybords. All the three tracks from the second demo is on the album.

S - Have you considered doing anything outside myGRAIN ?
R - myGRAIN fullfills my musical hunger. Eve (K) plays live keyboards in this doom-metal band called ABLAZE IN HATRED. Everybody should check them out. Their debut album hits the shops this autumn.

T - Same with me. I also wouldn’t have enough energy and time for another bands because of the daily work and stuff.

S - What will Spinefarm Records be able to do for you in the South America ?
R - Well hopefully our album is in musicshops over here :)

T - Hmmm..and maybe they book us a tour someday, that reaches all the way there, with some of the bigger finnish bands.

S - Nowadays people are often talking of music piratism. What are your opinions about downloading music from the internet?
R - Well I think it's OK to download music, if the band wants to put their music on their own websites etc. Of course it's a shit thing that people can download your albums before they are even released and stuff like that.

T - Yeah, there’s a good and bad side of it. For younger bands the free downloads can be a positive thing. More people see and hear you.

S - What do you think of the current state of the Finn metal scene? Are there any bands that you like in particular?
R - Scandinavian metal rules! My fave finnish bands at the moment are MISERY INC.., PROFANE OMEN & AMORAL.

T - Those bands rule! Also most of my favorite bands come from Scandinavia and Finland. I think finnish metal is coming more and more popular all the time, and that’s not a bad thing.

S - What do you do in your ordinary life to make a living? Would you rather do music full-time if you were given the possibility?
R - Well I'm a storemanager in this musicshop called Free Record Shop. It's a nice job, but of course if I could make a living with playing music in this band, it would be a dream come true. But it's a long way there :)

T - I’m working on the boring school stuff and summerjob right now. It would be awesome to make a living with music someday.. Spreading our migraine all over!

S - How are you feeling days ? Are you up for touring, or do you have to wait for a while ?
R - Well we're playing shows here in Finland as much as we can, and hopefully we could do some touring abroad, before we hit the studio again to record our second album. We just inked a gigbooking deal with this big label Welldone Promotion & Agency, so lets see what happens in the future.

T - Waiting to hit the road as much as possible. Especially somewhere abroad. In South America maybe..?

S - Anything else ?
R - Lisää paskaa housuun & hopefully we see you on the road.

T - Hope to see you in the pit and banging heads with us! Keep it rockin’!
