SOURCE - Tell me what the feelings within the band were like at the time of Wounds Wide Open's release ?
JAPE PERÄTALO - Happy of course! it was nice to be at the studio but when we are not on tour we will be bored very soon... so we were happy that "now we can go again":)
SOURCE - How did the process of making the new album differ from how you approached "IV"?
JP - We recorded this album in three different studios and we used two recorder man, and then we mixed this in Sweden with Peter Tätgtren. Also we did things such a natural way. We did not use all the skills you can do with pro tools! We just played as rock music should be played:)
SOURCE - If you look back at the process of writing and recording the album, what aspects have then surprised you the most with "Wounds Wide Open" ?
JP - Well... nothing surprised me:) I wrote all the songs in my living room with keyboards or with acoustic guitar. Then guys did their own parts and I played keyboards on it! Well maybe one big thing for me personally was that Antza found this guitar sound which I am satisfied first time in TO/DIE/FOR history !
SOURCE - So far you had some very successful albums and the new will also be a success. But how far your ambition goes, where do you see TO/DIE/FOR in the future ?
JP - We will create something new and most of the changes will be on next(sixth)album and I know in couple of years we are very big. We are not thinking where this all is going to end! This is our life and love... and we wanna keep it alive a long time!
SOURCE - What are your hopes and expectations as regards to "Wounds Wide Open" ? Have you set any specific goals?
JP - I don´t expect a lot but I am sure we will do more TO/DIE/FOR fans with "Wounds Wide Open" because we are the best melancholy rock band in the world:) All we wanna do now is as much shows around the world as possible ! We wanna meet our fans everywhere!
SOURCE - How do you fell about the rock/metal scene in Finland ?
JP - It is too big :) Too many bands into this little country! Metal bands are numbers ones on charts! Think about that? Gothic scene is going to be dead and it does not sell that much anymore. Finnish metal which is sang in finnish language is huge scene now!
SOURCE - What would it take for you guys to create new songs for a full-length release ?
JP - Imagination and it needs some days we don´t have anything else to do! It is very important to be lazy and just wait that melodies will find your head again! But when we really start to work things will happen very fast like always.
SOURCE - Your albums take a while for the listener to internalize - neither disc is the kind of thing you can listen to once and fully understand. Does the complexity of the work make it tought for you find your audience ?
JP - that´s why our audience will find us with delay:)but i don´t think it´s bad thing at all.now there coming more and more TO/DIE/FOR fans in u.s.a!?it is weird because we don´t even have a company in u.s!!! but it feels great! we don´t wanna do some things simple just because "we need to be big right now":) We will do music as we love to do it!!!
SOURCE - What do you do in your ordinary life to make a living? Would you rather do music full-time if you were given the possibility?
JP - TO/DIE/FOR is full time job actually... playing on live and writing songs does not feel as a job, but interviews :) and answering e-mails etc. Feels sometimes as day-job:) We are not that rich but this is all we wanna do!
SOURCE - What is the promotion plan for the "Wounds Wide Open" ? How's the touring schedule look like ? Any plans to visit Brazil ?
JP - Oh we really would like to come there but there is not any promoters found yet who really would like to bring us there!!! We are waiting to meet you all there! So... promoters please take contact:) as i told before we are just touring a lot! Europe first-Japan-Russia-Serbia-Croatia and Mexico.
SOURCE - Any final comments you'd like to add for people hearing about you guys for the first time ?
JP - Check us with time and you will love us! Better to know us now than after we are dead and just legends :)
