ANTERIOR

SOURCEWEBZINE - What's it like being on a label like Metal Blade Records that has so
many great bands on its roster?
LUKE DAVIES (V/G) - Its a real honour being label mates with such an impressive array of
talented artists. Its a little nerve racking coming from a little town in
South Wales - UK and all of a sudden being part of this bustling music
industry.
However I think its a great inspiration to push harder and try to
improve upon yourself when you know that you really have to compete with all
these great bands.
SOURCEWEBZINE - I have heard only good things about your new album. How do
you
feel about it?
LD - We're all really really pleased with this record. I think we acieved
everything that we wanted to accomplish musically. Its all been quite a big
experience to sign with a label and then put out a record for everyone to
hear, its easy to get nervous when you have all these people listening to
your stuff, and you worry that thier not going to like it.
SOURCEWEBZINE - If you should choose one song, which represents the essence
of
ANTERIOR on the album, which one would that be ?
LD - I think it would have to be "Dead Divine". Its got all of the
characteristics that I think ANTERIOR is all about. There a huge solo in
there, coupled with some really aggressive technical drumming and is also
laiden with a strong amount of melody which is important I think.
SOURCEWEBZINE - There's a lot going on in English metal at the moment. Do
you
feel that it is easier to attract the attention of international media just
because of the fact that you're an English
band?
LD - I think it brings a lot of vitality to the British scene, there are a hell
of a lot of great bands coming out of the UK these days and I think it puts
quite a high standard on all the music.
I'm not sure that being form here
gives us any headstart as to attraction from media outside of the UK, I
think the music speaks for itself.
SOURCEWEBZINE - What do you consider to be the biggest accomplishment for
you
and ANTERIOR, not necessarily sales wise?
LD - I think it would have to be the fact that we have signed to quite a major
label in the metal world, thats a big enough accomplshment on its own. These
guys listen to a hell of a lot of new bands beging for an opportunity to
sign up with them and to be picked is a real honour. That would definately
be one of the highlights of my life.
SOURCEWEBZINE - What are the strengths and where can ANTERIOR improve?
LD - I think ANTERIOR has its strengths lying with the technical ability of the
band. We've all worked hard at improving ourselves, we practice with a lot
of dicipline and I think thats very important. As for improving, i think
that we're very young and have only just appeard on the metal scene, not a
lot of people would have heard of the name ANTERIOR. I think we have quite a
lot to learn about music and writing, but nevertheless I'm sure we've got the
determination to stick at it.
SOURCEWEBZINE - If your music was an emotion, which one would it be?
LD - I think it would have to be determination. There's a real drive behind
ANTERIOR, we really want to do well, and want to improve.
SOURCEWEBZINE - The internet is a very important source for many metal fans
-
how do you use the internet and how important is it for you and other bands?
LD - I think the interent nowadays is quite invaluable. Its pretty much the
reason that we signed with Metal Blade. We recorded a demo back in the
summer last year and posted a few songs on our myspace page, we stumbled
upon a management company in the US as a result of this. They submitted
everything to the labels on our behalf but we would have never made that
initial contact without the internet.
Everything has got so much easier, you
can just take a look at a bands website now and its got all the information
you could want, rather than waiting for mag/zines like back a few years ago.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Is it possible to get by as a musician in England? Do you
all
have day-time jobs besides ANTERIOR ?
LD - Unfortunately its not all singing and dancing once you get signed, we still
work a few hours a week in bars over here to get some money in. Its
incredibly expensive to run a band and to pull money for yourself is even
harder. Nearly every penny we make ends up being pumped back into the band
for something.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer my question. Any
final rants for our readers?
LD - Thank you very much for your time, go out and pick up a copy of 'This Age Of
Silence', stay heavy!
