ENSIFERUM

SOURCEWEBZINE -  First off I just want to congratulate you on your new album, the third if I'm correct. To new fans could your please fill us in on the history behind it all?
PETRI LINDROOS (VOCALS) - LINKKI BÄNDIN HISTORIA OSIOON.

SOURCEWEBZINE -  What was the hardest part in making the new album?
PL - To decide song titles. :D

SOURCEWEBZINE -  How has your new album been received by the media – are you satisfied with the reviews so far? What do you hope that this album will bring for you?
PL - "Victory Songs" has received very good reviews but they don’t really matter. We know we made damn good album we are very proud of it. Hopefully we get more gigs even outside Europe.

SOURCEWEBZINE -  I've had the opportunity to listen to the new album the last week, and though I'm normally not that much into the metal scene material, it really caught me. I know artists don¹t like to put a label on their music - but yours seem to be a mixture of several styles and directions, how would you describe your music, and how did you come to this mixture?
PL - Heroic-melodic-folk metal. How did we come to this mixture…hmmm…this just feels right for us.

SOURCEWEBZINE - What do you consider to be the biggest accomplishment for you and ENSIFERUM, not necessarily sales wise? What are the strengths and where can you improve?
PL - Russian fan club named a star as “Ensiferum” . That’s extremely cool!
Our strength is our spirit. We have very solid line up and we can be totally honest to each other. Of course we all want to become better musicians and song writers.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How do you define success? Only in terms of sales or is there a different definition of success for you as a band?
PL - Main thing is to play good gigs and “connect” with the crowd. We got really crazy fans!

SOURCEWEBZINE - Finland has an amazing scene with tons of great bands. So here a triple question: Why is it that there are so many? Which ones do you regard as best? And which new and coming bands would you recommend to our listeners to keep an eye/ear open for?
PL - Finnish state of mind is good for metal music. Here are some bands some of us/we all really like MOONSORROW, AMORPHIS, IMPALED NAZARENETARUJEN SAARI...

SOURCEWEBZINE - You have been around for quite some while now in the Finnish scene, how is your perception of Metal and its acceptance in Finland?
PL - Metal has become pretty big thing in Finland. For example our DVD was 2nd and "Victory Songs" was 6th in official chart.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you think that there still is a real underground, as there had been many years back?
PL - I think there will always be some underground activity.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How important do you think is the internet nowadays to promote an up and coming band?
PL - Internet is like a double edged sword. For new band it’s a good way to promote the band but later it can turn against you if people just download your music instead of buy it. Although artist don’t usually gain much from sales but it affects to next albums budget. So if you people like what you hear, buy the album so bands can keep up/gain better level/quality!

SOURCEWEBZINE - If time travel was possible, which historical period would you like to visit and why? What would you miss the most from our time?
PL - Personally I would go to the dawn of time and enjoy the silence and untouched nature. I would miss Burger King and vodka.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Please, feel free to add some comments...
PL - Enjoy the new album and see you at gigs!
