SOURCE – What do you think makes Metsatöll stand out? There’s a ton of music out there, what makes you guys special?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – There are not many bands that sing in estonian for example. Also I don’t think that there are many bands that use traditional estonian instruments in metal music. And also there is something that only you listeners feel or find in our music that makes you like our music.

SOURCE – What will be your strongest memory of the recording of Karjajuht?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – We were so busy last year. We had three tours and we decided to record also. So the best memory is the flow how we managed to do it and finish it in time.

SOURCE – In terms of music, lyrics, concept etc, and how they are created; what is the creative process behind a Metsatöll song for you?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – The process is life itself. The themes and lyrics we are singing are timeless. Everything we feel around us we see what we can touch what we can learn creates our inspiration.

SOURCE – Tell me about the cover artwork. What inspired the making of the artwork, and how would you say it ties into the music?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – Life is not given to us to suffer and wail, life is given for standing upright on your own two feet. For supporting those who are weaker than you, and to accept help from those who are greater than you. For keeping your own tribe and pride. Only when ‘me’ becomes ‘us’ can we stand strong. Together. Shoulder to shoulder, back to back! The work was made specialy for us by the painter. And its like heraldic bird that have eyes on backside. So someone is always by yourside watching you.

SOURCE – Could you tell us about Öö song?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – Öö means night and its a short warsong. And its about courage and stamina. One that can survive the night can also stand up in the morning as a winner.

SOURCE – How did you decide to work with producer Samuel Ruotsalainen and how was the experience?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – We have never used a person beside us when we have been doing a new album. This time we wanted to do it differently. He was just listening our work so we could find new corners in the music writening process. We wrote a lot of songs and when the demos were done he said what songs sounded more interesting and with what we should work on even more. Not much but still. He is a fine brother to work with. I think we did the right desision. New material is much more fierce.

SOURCE – Did you or are there plans to shoot any videos for this album?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – Yes we already did one last year.

SOURCE – What are your thoughts on streaming services like Spotify and Pandora?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – I don’t know what to think. But I’m pretty sure that those sevices are good for our promotion. I know its not easy to get our albums in the stores all over the world. But every artist is interested that his work would be available to the listeners so its one possibility.

SOURCE – Do you plan on playing live in the Brazil in the future?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – Yes we are working on it and the idea has been in our mind for a long time. We will let you know.

SOURCE – What’s next for Metsatöll?

Markus Teeäär (Vocals, Guitar) – We hope to film more videos and lets see maybe some touring. Of course there will be festivals in summer.
