SOURCEWEBZINE - Before going any deeper I would like to know a little bit about your early days as EILERA. How did it all start?
EILERA (V) - Well…You have those wake-up calls that come without warning here and then… Loïc, the guitarist who still plays with me these days, asked me to sing on one of his songs, on a day, sometime in year 2000… I was mainly a guitarist at that time, and did not have much clue of how to sing! But I did. And from then on, I could never stop again.

Three years later, we worked together on the songs that would be on the Facettes album. It was new for us. Fresh, with a new sound, new ways of working, far from our previous bands… Very exciting! I felt I had finally found the freedom that I had been searching but never found in bands all the previous years. I made my own songs, worked on them with my friend, and got to sing them also… I became totally addicted to it. I am still, and more than ever today.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Where do you currently reside? How did you meet the other members who formed Eilera with you?
E - I currently live in…Two countries! As I come and go between south of France and Finland. Yet the roots of Eilera are and belong to the south of France. Loïc lives there. And you know, he is the only person I have been working with from the start. Eilera is not a band… I surround myself with musicians in studio, and for concerts. For the coming shows for instance, we will be three French people, and three Finnish… Of course, as my road has already led me to meet many nice and talented people, I might work with them again…

SOURCEWEBZINE - The new CD has been titled “Fusion” and it will be out on September 12th through Spinefarm Records. What does the album title mean?
E - Fusion of Warmth and Cold…
Fusion of the Girl and the Woman…
Fusion of cultures and sensitivities…
Fusion of modern and older instruments and sounds
Fusion of exctatic energy, passion, and of much calmer and wiser feelings, as the awareness of your roots become stronger in you with time… ‘Fusion’ simply IS this album.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How was the recording process of the album?
E - It was shared between south of France and Finland, and between home recording and studio.

It was long, yet intense…Composition and first recordings in France. Then bass and drums in Finnvox -Helsinki- , guitars, fiddle and vocals in home-studio, France. Recording of strings in Finland again, followed by mix and mastering… Lots of traveling, lots of emotion; people giving their energy to ten songs… It was altogether more than one year and a half of my life.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Will there be any guest appearances on the album?
E - All of the musicians on this album were my guests.

SOURCEWEBZINE - What kind of subjects are you dealing with “Fusion” ?
E - Freedom, passion, electricity and Beauty… I owe a lot to Nature for these songs. She was at the heart of a lot of them. Just like this great urge of mine to grab the present moment, put it in my mouth, swallow it and keep it as deep and preciously as I can in me.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How would you compare the sound of your new album to”Precious Moment” EP ?
E - “Precious Moment” was entirely recorded in studio, and in a few days, in Finland.

I worked a lot home for “Fusion”. With warmth and light, taking my time, together with my friend Loïc… This way, the warmth of home got to mix with the cold of Finland, and the colder feeling of working in studio. Producer Hiili Hiilesmaa only came at the end of the process this time. Ice-topping the cake! And bringing his personal touch to the sound…

SOURCEWEBZINE - What´s the situation for your type of music where you live right now?
E - France is slowly opening itself to heavier sounds. There is definitrely a demand and a market for it. Yet the record companies are still stubborn and old-fashioned there… I’m ready to open new doors. ;-)

SOURCEWEBZINE - What´s your opinion about the current state of metal music? Is it heading in the right direction in your opinion? What would be a ‘right direction’?
E - To me there is no wrong one. I think the metal scene is simply following its road, following the heart of the passionated people who are driving and carrying it.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you take a personal interest in your MySpace page | EILERA.com and what do you think of this new invention?
E - Yes, I do. It’s important for me to present Eilera both in musical and in visual terms.

It’s also important for me to answer to the support and energy I get via internet. Just like it’s important for me to have the means to say what I have to say on a wide scale…

SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you have other major interests outside music?
E - Taking care of Nature and sharing with her.
After all she’s been giving so much to us, it’s only fair…

SOURCEWEBZINE - A little bit about your music taste. What kind of stuff are you currently listening to?
E - Irish folk, 70s rock…All passionated people I can find! Lately I spent some time with Edith Piaf… Strong Angel.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Finally, what is the one thing about EILERA that nobody knows yet?
E - Probably don’t know it myself!
