IRONICA

SOURCEWEBZINE - We are an online magazine, totally dedicated to the rock, metal and hardcore scene based in Brazil - South America. What else do you know about our beautiful country, besides the fact that we have beautiful Forest ?
Ville Nepal (G) - I have heard, that Brazil is a very metal-oriented country, and people in Brazil like heavy metal music quite much. But that’s only a good thing, isn’t it? And isn’t Angra coming from Brazil? I’m personally a big fan of Angra…

SOURCEWEBZINE - You’re just about to issue your new album, care to plug it a bit?
Ville Nepal (G) - Well, we’re all very satisfied our new album, though it’s our debut release. We were able to catch all the music on tape as we wanted to, and our debut release includes all the musical varieties that our band is able to express, from depressive to very aggressive feelings. I bet there’s at least one song for all kinds of metalheads!

SOURCEWEBZINE - You’ve worked with Ahti Kortelainen on the album “Consequences”. Did he has an impact on the evolution of your music ?
Ville Nepal (G) - Actually Ahti’s only concern was to record our music with great intensity, but he definitely had some kind of influence, not exactly on the music but ourselves personally. Ahti is not only relaxed but also very professional. He encouraged us all the time and he was able to maintain good feeling through the sessions, but also he was wery strict with our playing and singing. Ahti is absolutely a perfect guy in delivering our new album. All hail Ahti!

SOURCEWEBZINE - You have already received a lot of positive feedback from your upcoming album. Have you been surprised with the positive press you have gotten so far? What are your personal expectations towards the album?
Ville Nepal (G) - We’ve been very surprised on the positive feedback that we’ve had, of course we believed that “Concequences” is a good debut album, and we knew that at least some people would like it, but the positive approach in general surprised us all. Personally we didn’t actually knew what to expect with our debut album, some more attention and gigs of course. But everything that will come we’ll take with open arms, we’ll see.. Hopefully it will bring us a lot of gigs and also attention from outside Finland as well. For example from Brazil..

SOURCEWEBZINE - Can you give us an idea of the working habits of the band’s members? What must be present in order for a song to be brought to life and how much say do the members have individually as to what goes on an album and what is left off?
Ville Nepal (G) - What comes to new material, I record a demo version from all of our songs, including all guitars, drums, bass, keyboards etc. Then I write the lyrics, and I then give the song to the band guys to practice. And every time when they want to change something or they are not satisfied with the song, we’ll then work together in order to make everything work, cos’ I don’t want to be a dictator who says how everything should go. Usually they have nothing to complain about, but sometimes we “pimp up” the song a bit. But in general we’re absolutely democratic band, we decide all the things concerning our band and our music together.

SOURCEWEBZINE - In the end I would like to know a little bit about your music taste so what’s hot on your music plate at the moment?
Ville Nepal (G) - Well, we all listen to different kinds of music, we have surprisingly varying tastes, but in general all of us like somekind of metal in some form. On my plate this moment’s hot bands are Nightwish, Strapping Young Lad, In Flames and Scar Symmetry. Also a bit of Coldplay every now and then.

SOURCEWEBZINE - The Finnish metal scene is very rich in bands and is growing rapidly all the time. Does all musicians know each other well or is it a lot of hard feelings and jealousy going on ?
Ville Nepal (G) - Heh, there is definitely not any jealousy or any hard feelings in the finnish metal scene, not that I know. At the top I guess that all musicians know each other in some way, but there is somekind of brotherhood among all metal musicians in Finland, everybody appreciates everybodys work and everyone respects each other.

SOURCEWEBZINE - What do you think about the Brazilian metal scene? Do you know much about our bands?
Ville Nepal (G) - Well, I think I mentioned Angra earlier, and that’s one of my favourite bands. And of course everyone knows Sepultura, and also I think that Soulfly has something to do with Brazil as well. All of them are good bands, definitely!

SOURCEWEBZINE - The bands put a new song in the mp3 format on the official website. In general, what is your opinion about mp3s, file sharing programs and stuff like that?
Ville Nepal (G) - It seems that mp3s are the future in music business. Which is a shame, cos’ eventually all the actual material that one could possess, like CDs, will disappear.

Hopefully this will never happen, cos’ I personally like cds and stuff that I can actually
hold in my hand. That’s somethig concrete, what a band or an artist has created. Also moving towards digital music releases increase the level of piratism, which totally sucks!

At the beginning it might be even good thing for new bands, if people are spreading their music all around and therefore bads are able to get some free promotion, but the threshold to buy the album from the shop is then a lot higher… All hail CDS!

SOURCEWEBZINE - Thank you really much for the interview and good luck with your new record. Anything you wanna say to your fans before we wrap things up?
Ville Nepal (G) - Thank you so much! It’s nice that people from Brazil are interested, hopefully we’ll be there someday playing for you! Feel free to get to know with our band, and if you like our music, go and spread the word! Thanks, and my best regards to all Brazilian metalheads! Stay Metal, Ville.
