THE ARCANE ORDER

SOURCEWEBZINE - Another album, another tour… What’s different this time?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - This time we are here with a product that sounds only like THE ARCANE ORDER. We have managed to create our own sound on the new record, and we are damn proud with the new album!

SOURCEWEBZINE - What has changed in the band since the first album - and what has changed on the scene?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - I don’t think that much has changed in the scene, since it’s only been 1½ years since we released our last album. But one tendency is that it is getting harder and harder to create unique stuff because there are so many different bands our there mixing all sort of genres. Also today you have to stand out a lot more to get attention in the scene than just 5 years ago. People are growing tired of the usual Thrash/Death/Metalcore.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Jacob Hansen has produced both your albums. Have you ever thought of separating your work from his influence, e.g. by using a different producer?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - We did think about it for a while before recording the new album, but we ended up choosing Jacob again. Why? Well, you know they say “Never change a winning team”  As we all know Jacob is an excellent producer, and working with him is really great. He knows us all really well, and therefore he knows how to make is perform the very best. Jacob also always comes up with tons of ideas and constructive criticism, which is really great. Also he is a really funny guy to be around!

SOURCEWEBZINE - Every member takes place in other bands, too. (e.g. Koldborn, Submission, Raunchy). What are the side projects about and doesn’t I’m become complicated to dance on so many weddings?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Well it does get a bit complicated every now and then when we have to book shows and studio time. But in the end it’s all about planning stuff. The other guys are involved in Submission and Raunchy, which is the only bands taking up time. Morten, our drummer, does a lot of session work as well though, with bands like The Cleansing, Transparent, Scarve, Instant Carnage, and he has played session drums for Hatesphere and Nightrage as well.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How does each member figure in the overall writing process?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - I do all the riffs for the music and put together songs on my computer at home. Kasper, our vocalist, does all the lyrics. When we meet in the rehearsal room everyone then helps to arrange the songs and everyone comes up with great ideas.

SOURCEWEBZINE - What progression, musically speaking, do you hear from the first THE ARCANE ORDER CD “The Machinery Of Oblivion” to your new album (2008)?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Oh, a lot! First of all you have to remember that some of the songs that we featured on our debut album were written way back in 1999/2000, so they we actually quite old when finally released. So therefore you can hear a natural progression. But what other difference is there? Well, first of all the stuff on our debut album was more or less oldschool Thrash Metal mixed with some more modern Thrash as well. On the new album our style is a bit harder to describe. But basically I’d say we are a mixture of extreme Thrash and epic sometime fast, sometimes slower, Death Metal. Some people even thing they can hear Black Metal parts in our new stuff. We are not influenced by Black Metal though. But basically we are a lot more mature as a band and a team now and we are a lot more extreme.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Are there any plans to shoot any more videos for this album?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Not at the present moment, but we would love to do one if Metal Blade Records would support a video!

SOURCEWEBZINE - Since you’re a band with such a strong presence on the Internet, and the album did well anyway, does it bother you when people “illegally” download your music?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Of course it does, because when people either buy the CD or the album as digital download it’s more or less the only thing that can finance a new CD for us. If we don’t sell well, well then there’s just no financial reason for a record company to release album with a band. It’s as simple as that. I don’t mind if people download stuff illegally as long as they buy the stuff if they like it. It’s impossible to stop anyway.

SOURCEWEBZINE - THE ARCANE ORDER seems to be a good example of how the music industry is changing, and how bands are able to more and more take matters into their ownhands and promote themselves via the Internet. However, not all the bands benefiting from this are all that original or even good. So do you think sites like MySpace are having a positive or negative impact on the metal scene?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Definitely a positive effect! We are in so many ways able to spread our name a lot more and to different geographical locations than if without Myspace. Sure, there’s lot of crap out there on Myspace today, but that’s the good thing… you can just listen to 5 seconds and then skip to the next band. And furthermore it’s a great way for smaller bands to get attention and live out their dreams. So I don’t see any negative impact at all.

SOURCEWEBZINE - What’s new from the your and the rest of the band members’ other bands?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - We in THE ARCANE ORDER and our booking agency are currently trying to set up tour in the summer of 2008. Also I am slowly starting to write new riffs for the next record. We can’t wait to record the next album already! Submission will be recording their new album in March and Raunchy actually entered Jacob Hansens studio just today (February 11th 2008) to record the new album. I’m gonna head down there soon to drink some beers with them. They are awesome guys and I am sure the new stuff will rule!

SOURCEWEBZINE - The Danish metal scene is filled with a ton of amazing bands, what do you think makes you guys stand out?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - That we have our own sound. No other Danish band sound like we do on the new album. We seem to have found our own niche, which is really nice. But you are right, Denmark has got so many great bands. Everyone knows bands like Hatesphere, Raunchy, Mercenary, Illdisposed, Mnemic, Invocator and Exmorten but we have some really exciting and new bands out there coming up like Scamp, Dawn of Demise, The Burning, Slow Death Factory, The Cleansing, The Psyke Project and a lot other. So stay tuned… you haven’t heard the last great band from Denmark for sure!

SOURCEWEBZINE - With the success and rave reviews of the last release, does that increase your expectations for this album?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Definetely. People have expected a lot from the new album, but we really think that we live up to the expectations with the new album. And judging from the reviews people love the new album as much as the old one and most even more.

SOURCEWEBZINE - That’s about it, any final words for our readers?

Flemming C. Lund (Guitars) - Thanks a lot for the interview! It’s the first Brazilian interview I have done with THE ARCANE ORDER, so it’s a real honour. Everyone into extreme metal played by skilled musicians please go check out our new record “In the Wake of Collisions”. Cheers everyone!
