SOURCEWEBZINE - How has the response been on “Xecutioner’s Return” and what kind of expectations do you have for it?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - The reaction has been amazing. We only expected it to be a true Obituary album and it is!
SOURCEWEBZINE - How has Obituary’s sound evolved from “Frozen Time” to “Xecutioner’s Return”?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - A bit we wanted to go more oldschool with “Xecutioners Return” and we added Ralphs shredding!
SOURCEWEBZINE - How did Ralph Santolla come to join the band as your new guitarist?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - He was hanging in our studio and threw some leads down and the rest is history!
SOURCEWEBZINE - Is Ralph a permanent member of the band, or is he just filling in for Allen?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Yes Ralph is our new guitarist.
SOURCEWEBZINE - How is the relationship and attitudes among the band members during this second incarnation of the band after you were apart for several years?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Better than ever actually. We are all older and more mature these
days so we get along great.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Obituary has been together for 20 years now. Has your songwriting process changed much over the years?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Not much we try to re-invent HEAVY everytime.
SOURCEWEBZINE - You’ve been at this since the ‘80s. What have been some of the biggest changes you’ve seen in the music industry?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Alot of shitty music that sells millions and has no heart.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Has downloading negatively impacted Obituary ?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Sales wise yes but atleast people can find it.
SOURCEWEBZINE - How do you feel about the co-operation with your label Candlelight Records ?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Amazing we are very happy…
SOURCEWEBZINE - With so much material, is it difficult to put together a set list?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Yes one of our biggest problems… so we play what we want!
SOURCEWEBZINE - Now that you’re older with wives and families is it tougher on you to go out on tour?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Yes but it is in our blood and what we do so it come natural.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you ever think about Obituary’s influence and importance to heavy metal?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Yes its a great honor !
SOURCEWEBZINE - Which Obituary album do you think is the most underrated?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - “Back from the Dead”.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Does the band have a big fanbase and where in the world are you the most popular do you think?
Frank Watkins (Bass) - Its big… South America has always been really cool!
