SOURCEWEBZINE - First off before going any deeper I would like to know that how is it going for you and ENTOMBED at the moment?
Lars Petrov (V) - It is going good thanks, we have some shows here in Sweden and we look forward to all the festivals in the summertime, full of headbanging and beer!! We are doing some songs for a new album but they are only in the early stage. We are having a good time, reahersing some songs for a show in LA. It will be lots of old songs.
SOURCEWEBZINE - What musical approach are you taking on “Serpents Saints” album?
Lars Petrov (V) - We tried to have a simpel approach and get back to the basic, more death metal beacuse thats what we are!! We are four guys that want to play metal like it was in the begininng, and you will hear in on the next album.. More fast stuff!!
SOURCEWEBZINE - How has the band’s sound evolved from your last album to “Serpents Saints”?
Lars Petrov (V) - Its more back to the old days and thats the way we will contiune to do! Straight forward metal songs, we are a 4 piece now and all the members in the band wants to play the same mucic, metal!!
SOURCEWEBZINE - What’s the status of your next album?
Lars Petrov (V) - We are currently doing some riffs and so on, and its sounds brutal, we are going for an easy straight forward approach. But we try not to rush things anyway. As long as its good songs.
SOURCEWEBZINE - You’ve been at this since the ‘80s. What have been some of the biggest changes you’ve seen in the music industry?
Lars Petrov (V) - For us things havent changed that much, we are doing what we do and many bands have come and gone in our lifetime, but we are still around! We stick to our roots. The download era doesnt affect us very much, we see it as a promotional tool haha. Wed like to see more of the oldschool metal come around again in strong force, at least thats the situation here in Sweden.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Has downloading negatively impacted Entombed?
Lars Petrov (V) - Not really, as i said before, its more of a promotional tool for us, if you like the album you buy it, i do anyway!! I bought 2 Angelcorpse cds last week.
SOURCEWEBZINE - There have been so many great Swedish metal bands. Who do you think are the best?
Lars Petrov (V) - Grave and Dismember and Unleashed are close to me, there are many more but they have been around the longest and still we go out and party in the weekends!! Whenever its a small death metal gig we get together and get wasted on vodka haha, things never change!
SOURCEWEBZINE - Entombed has been together for 20 years now. Has your songwriting process changed much over the years?
Lars Petrov (V) - Nowadays we try to make it as simple as we can, it is a waste of time making songs that you cant perform live, which many bands do these days with overdubbs when they play live, that cheating.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you think there is less loyalty and patience from record labels these days?
Lars Petrov (V) - I have no idea, we have our own record label and we handle everything, thats better beacuse you can decide everything on your own. No people in between that we have to go thru.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you have a day job, or are you able to make a living playing music?
Lars Petrov (V) - We try to live by the mucic, its hard sometimes but we rather concentrate fully on the music instead of having jobs on the side, metal forever!!
SOURCEWEBZINE - The band started in 90s what do you contribute the longevity of the band to?
Lars Petrov (V) - The love to play music, there has been no other option, members have come and gone but the backbone is still in the band. We are metal and we wont change. If you want to play something else you better leave haha
SOURCEWEBZINE - With each new album does it become more difficult to put together a set list for your tours?
Lars Petrov (V) - Not really, we just had a couple of shows where we play songs from various albums, except from Same Difference and Inferno. We reahearse more from the first 2 albums.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Now that you guys are older and have wives and kids, is it more difficult to break away and tour for months at a time?
Lars Petrov (V) - It is just one of us that have kids, its not so difficult really, they fly out if we have some long tour, they even came on a 7 date tour, that wasnt a problem. The kids gotta learn the life on the road early you know!
SOURCEWEBZINE - You have toured all over the world. Is there any place you have not played that you would still like to get to?
Lars Petrov (V) - We have played in everywhere except South America and Russia, we will try to get there for some shows. Is time for the people to get some Entombed headbanging!! We really miss going to those places..
SOURCEWEBZINE - Is there anything else you would like to mention?
Lars Petrov (V) - Thanks for the interview and hope that we will come to play there soon!! Stay metal!
