SOURCEWEBZINE - Give us a preview of your new album “Mimesis”…
Jami Pietilä (V) - For me “Mimesis” is all about mixing different moods & styles together. It’s dark album with lots of passion and buried energy behind it. I guess we tried to concentrate the story side of the songs a bit more if you compare it to our first album “Unreal”.
SOURCEWEBZINE - What has the response to “Mimesis” been like?
Jami Pietilä (V) - Our first single “You deserve more” has got lots of airplay in Finnish radio stations, so everything looks really promising. Also our fans seem to like it so we can’t really complain about anything.
SOURCEWEBZINE - As you make more and more albums, does it get more difficult to break new musical ground and do new things?
Jami Pietilä (V) - I think that it’s really easy to do something new with just mixing different things together. Nowadays I’m writing songs mainly with Johnny, which also helps keeping things fresh and interesting. Johnny can pull me back to this “normal” mode when I’m doing something pretty weird or crazy and this does happen quite often.
SOURCEWEBZINE - The music on “Mimesis” is still very upbeat and raucous, but it seems a little darker and more intense than your past work. Is that accurate, and if so, what caused it?
Jami Pietilä (V) - I think that there was some kind of intention to write it as dark and intense as we could at the time.I was also interested to see if we could do more powerful songs with fewer instruments by keeping things simple and I think we manage to do that with some of the tracks quite well.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Do the lyrics follow similar subject matter as before?
Jami Pietilä (V) - Now when I think of, yes. Lot’s of stories about selfish people, wars, drugs and stuff like that. But it’s not always that severe than you may think of.
SOURCEWEBZINE - End Of You has grown and had a lot of success during the past few years. Is the band’s success level now where you expected it to be?
Jami Pietilä (V) - We would definitely want to do those really big ass shows around the world every day but before that is possible we are quite happy where we are today.
SOURCEWEBZINE - How did the music video shoot go?
Jami Pietilä (V) - It went really smooth and we had lots of fun what is not always the case when you shoot music video. I hope we get change to make another video with same group again some day.
SOURCEWEBZINE - What else do you have coming up tourwise?
Jami Pietilä (V) - When it comes to touring outside Finland, nothing certain yet. We just must wait and see about that.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you and the other band members have day jobs, or are you able to make a living playing music?
Jami Pietilä (V) - I try not to work that much nowadays, but yes, we have to find a way to pay our bills every month.
SOURCEWEBZINE - In what country does End Of You have the most fans?
Jami Pietilä (V) - Lots of traffic to our site comes from Germany, France, United States, Spain etc. But if you compare it to population, it’s Finland.
