BORN FROM PAIN

SOURCEWEBZINE - Let me just say that “Survival State Of Mind” is an undeniably heavy and killer album. For people that are new to the band - is “Survival” on par with past releases? If not then how does it differ?
Rob Franssen (V) - Thanks! I definitely think “Survival State Of Mind” is our best album up to date! I think we have managed to combine speed, groove and aggression with melody without for one second losing a bit of brutality. It’s the first time it worked out this well (at least we think so). Past albums used to have mostly one or a couple of these aspects and weren’t as well worked out the way they are now. We are really happy with the outcome!
SOURCEWEBZINE - What are some of the lyrical topics on “Survival State Of Mind”?
Rob Franssen (V) - Being focused in the constant struggles (”State Of Mind”), seeing through the make-believe ferry tales the powers that be feed us with every day to keep us under (”Zeitgeist”), the ruthlessness with which those same powers will stage events of unbelievable measure to keep us under and our mind focused on the wrong things (”Under False Flag”), the continued build up to what is ahead of us: an economic collapse and all the outcome that will have on humanity and the people (”Final Collapse”) just to name a few things.
SOURCEWEBZINE - I’d like to know which are the countries where you have more fans and following, besides Holland and England.
Rob Franssen (V) - I guess everywhere we’ve played so far… Shows were great in Japan, the US but also in South America and the west of Europe. We have been releasing records and touring for many years now and we have built up quite a following in many places.
SOURCEWEBZINE - What’s your opinion about the big web communities such as Facebook, MySpace etc.? Do you consider them as a good or a bad thing?
Rob Franssen (V) - I am not really into that stuff myself, but for the promotion of bands and interaction in general it is just great! Also, to voice an opinion and trying to get people actively involved in all kinds of stuff, create awareness and such. Very useful.
SOURCEWEBZINE - If a new band is to do a cover of any of your songs, which band do you think will do the justice and what song would it be?
Rob Franssen (V) - I really wouldn’ know who would be best at covering a Born From Pain song to be honest… That’s the hardest question up until now! Haha. If bands want to cover a BFP song than feel free to do so… I got no specific favorite really!
SOURCEWEBZINE - What are your thoughts of the metal/hardcore scene over here in Brazil?
Rob Franssen (V) - The scene overthere is really amazing. Metal has always been big down there. Hardcore is great as well! We have played Brazil 2 years ago and the shows were crazy. We loved it and are planning on coming back next year. The bands we played with were great, like Children Of Gaia… Great metal band like Sepultura, Sarcofago etc. Of course. People in general are very open and enthusiastic! Great!
SOURCEWEBZINE - Do you momentarily make enough money to live from being a musician?
Rob Franssen (V) - No, unfortunately not. We make some money by selling merch and from money we got for shows, but nothing we could eat, pay bills with and not be in depth…
SOURCEWEBZINE - Take us through your typical day.
Rob Franssen (V) - Getting up at 7.30, have breakfast. Answer mails, organize stuff and be creative for BFP, work for GSR Music (Hardcore label), eat, drink coffee, listen to music while I do all of that. Around this time there are a lot of interviews to take care of, so that takes up a lot of time. Tonight mostly work on the computer as well or go out and hang out with friends or my girlfriend. When there is not enough money for bills anymore I go and work for a computer company and get up at 6.16 and get back in at 19.00…
SOURCEWEBZINE - What’s your favorite hobby away from music?
Rob Franssen (V) - Football! Go Roda JC!
SOURCEWEBZINE - What are you doing in your time outside the band? Do you work something to pay your bills or you are doing only things connected with music?
Rob Franssen (V) - Yes, I frequently work for a computer company to pay for the bills and some extra money. I train people to set up networks and how to administer them… I also work for a hardcore label, do a festival and manage some bands out here.
SOURCEWEBZINE - Would you like to give some advice to the aspiring young bands today, perhaps, share some secrets of your success?
Rob Franssen (V) - Always persevere. Never give up! Believe in yourself and in your band. Be real… It sounds cheesy, but if you are not for 200% into what you are doing people will know, just like you know and it will never work. Hen you believe in what you are doing and never give up you always have a shot at something good! A chance will always come. Grab it!
SOURCEWEBZINE - Thanks and good luck for the upcoming tour, we hope it all goes well. Are there any last words or comments?
Rob Franssen (V) - Thanks for the interview! We will be back in South America in 2009! Look out for that! Make sure you pick up SURVIVAL. Look for truth!
