RESURRECTION

ResurrectionSOURCEWEBZINE - First of all, congratulations on the release of the new album “Mistaken For Dead”. I guess you guys are quite happy with the way it turned out. How has the response on the new album been so far?
John Astl (G) - Thank you! We are really happy with the way the album came out and the response has been pretty good overall. Of course there are some haters out there that like to bash you. We are 100% behind and into this album because we stayed true to who and what we are about.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Your sound has evolved over the years. How has it changed on this CD?
John Astl (G) - Well the biggest change has to be the overall songwriting. My songwriting has become more refined and structured over the years. I worked really hard on crafting songs that had a good flow to them and that did not loose the interest of the listener.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Have you read any reviews of the album, what does the media think of it ?
John Astl (G) - Overall, the reviews have been good. In Europe, we are averaging around 8.5. The media hopefully can see that our album is true Florida Death metal, nothing more nothing less.

SOURCEWEBZINE - What were your ambitions when recording “Mistaken For Dead” ?
John Astl (G) - To record a record that we can all be proud of. To me, that is the most important thing. As a musician, you have to enjoy what you do and that has to translate into the songs.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How’s the cooperation with Massacre Records ? For how many albums did you sign/how many do you still have to do for them ?
John Astl (G) - We signed for one album with 4 optional albums.

SOURCEWEBZINE - How much trouble do you have with day jobs conflicting with touring and general band responsibilities?
John Astl (G) - We all balance our other commitments with having responsibilities with the band. When we need to spend more time with the band, we do to get ready for something.  When we are in writing mode, we shift our time to use more of it for the band.  We try to keep it simple and use the time that we need with the band when it is called for.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Can you live on the music or do you have a regular job on the side?

John Astl (G) - I only know a few people that can live on music, and I AM NOT one of them! All of us have other jobs/gigs to pay our bills.

SOURCEWEBZINE -  In Brazil there’s much fans listening your kind of music. What do you know about the Brazil ?
John Astl (G) - I honestly do not know too much about Brazil except for what our friends in Cannibal and Deicide have told us. All I know is that I want to get Resurrection there to play in South America and play some of the South American festivals that I hear are the sickest festivals anywhere in the world!

SOURCEWEBZINE - What will Massacre Records be able to do for you in the South America ?
John Astl (G) - Massacre does have a Brazilian label partner now I believe. I do not know who it is or what they are called.

SOURCEWEBZINE - Nowadays people are often talking of music piratism. What are your opinions about downloading music from the internet?

John Astl (G) - I think that it sucks. Because of piracy, the labels do not have the money to send bands like us on tour. The music industry depends on retail sales to survive and the people that are quilty of piracy are the very ones who like to complain about how they never get to see their favorite bands in concert. The people doing the illegal piracy are the people who are destroying the music industry and make it hard for everyone to enjoy it. Look, I am not some politician or anything like that, but this type of shit needs to stop. Tape trading was one thing, but this is entirely different and it is a crime.

SOURCEWEBZINE - After releasing your album you will be doing couple of shows in the USA. What are your future plans after these shows? When can your Brazilian fans catch you guys on a Brazilian tour?
John Astl (G) - We hope to play in as many places as we can and reach out to as many of our fans as possible… We hope to someday get to south America and play here. One of our goals is to tour in South America, but I don’t know if it is realistic to be able to do it these days.

SOURCEWEBZINE - I was wondering if you had any final comments or news that you would like to pass on to people ?
John Astl (G) - Thank you for taking the time to interview us. If you like old-school Florida Death Metal, then you should check out Resurrection. We hope that the newer generation of metal-heads will give our music a chance! Thank you again, and we hope to see you someday in Brazil!
