THE BURNING

By Falber Teles • Feb 25th, 2009 • Category: Interviews

The BurningSOURCEWEBZINE – Hello Rasmus! While you might not know it, The Burning has never really been covered on Sourcewebzine and I suggest that you give us the low-down on your band.
Rasmus Normand (G) – Well then it’s about time you learned a little about us right, he he. We are a thrash/death metal band from Denmark. We released our debut album in December 2007 – it is called “Storm The Walls”. And now we are releasing the new album “Rewakening”. We like fast/groovy/melodic stuff. So i guess if you like Kreator, Slayer, Testament, Pantera, Carcass and so on – you should give the new record a listen. And the band is:  Johnny -  Vocals,  Rasmus – Guitar, Thue – Bass and Toby – Drums.

SOURCEWEBZINE – What were your ambitions when recording “Rewakening” ?
Rasmus Normand (G) – It sounds like such a cliché – but to make the best album we possibly could. We have all grown as musicians since the last one and that really shines through on this album. We have a strong album with “Rewakening”. The songs are more complex – there is a bit more variation in tempo. It is just as a whole a more mature record.

SOURCEWEBZINE – You signed a deal with Massacre Records, what did you want from a record deal?

Rasmus Normand (G) – We were thrilled that Massacre Records wanted to release our music.  You know – when you play music one of the dreams is to be able to make records. I still get a smile on my face when I see our record on the shelve in a record store next to all the great bands I grew up listening to.

SOURCEWEBZINE – Being a band from Denmark, and being a Danish. Could you tell us the Danish people characteristics?

Rasmus Normand (G) – Hmm… tough question. One thing is for sure – we are getting fatter by the hour, he he. I think that a general carateristic is hard to make – with all of the globalisation going on. But if I should try I would say that for the most part the danish people are welcoming – have a good sense of humour – have the ability to be self-ironic (which I think is a very good thing to be able to – you shouln’t take yourself all to seriously).

SOURCEWEBZINE – A lot of bands are more respected in other countries than their homeland. How is The Burning received in Denmark ?
Rasmus Normand (G) – I think we are well received all in all. We are very honest about what we do – we don’t try and be something we are not. We try to be very down to earth. And people get that I think. Plus there is coming more and more people to see us play – so I guess they just like the band.

SOURCEWEBZINE – Do you all have day-time jobs besides The Burning ?
Rasmus Normand (G) – Yes we do. We all have fulltime jobs. Got to pay the bills right, he he.

SOURCEWEBZINE – What do you do in your ordinary life to make a living? Would you rather do music full-time if you were given the possibility?
Rasmus Normand (G) – I work at a printhouse making magazines and all kind of other print related work. Thue (B) is in a kindergarden. Toby (D) is a sales manager in some software company (I think – no one really quit knows what he is doing…). Johnny (V) is a graphic designer and does all the graphics for the band. It would be nice to be able to live by playing our own music – but that is not possible for us at the moment.

SOURCEWEBZINE – What do you think about the Brazilian metal scene? Do you know much about our bands?
Rasmus Normand (G) – To be honest I don’t know that much. I know Sepultura and Krisiun and they are both great. I listened to “Arise” all the time when I was younger.

SOURCEWEBZINE – Are there any up and coming bands around the area that have caught your attention?
Rasmus Normand (G) – There is really only one band that is truly great. If you like death metal – real cut to the bone brutal style. Then check out Dawn of Demise. They are signed to Deepsend Records.

SOURCEWEBZINE – Thanks for the time you gave to me! All the Best!
Rasmus Normand (G) – You are welcome. Hopefully we get the chance to come play in Brazil and get to know the scene a little better.
