ELYSION

SOURCEWEBZINE – As it is the first time I became advertent of Elysion, please tell our readers something about your history and some background information about you?
Johnny Zero (G) – Elysion were founded in 2006 by Johnny Zero, combining many different styles ranging from a metal to a more gothic-electro background. Soon as their demo received excellent critics and also after having the chance to perform supporting a great number of highly respected bands (The Gathering, Diary Of Dreams, Christian Death) Elysion signed their record deal with Massacre Records and began recording their debut album.”Silent Scream” is being released on December 18th 2009, a release which is to be followed by Elysion’s tour in their homeland but also in Europe and afterwards America.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Can you give us a sneak preview of the upcoming studio album “Silent Scream”?
Johnny Zero (G) – We believe we are letting out a strong, powerful and very up-to-date album. One my favorite things about “Silent Scream” is the fact that it can relate to a great variety of different musical backgrounds, since we feel we have freely expressed ourselves throughout our many influences and haven’t been tied down to a specific music label. Our working with Ted Jensen for the album’s mastering has definitely been one of our most highlighted moments, together with having Mark Adrian as our producer. “Silent Scream” to me is a fluid ray of light sneaking into a dark room…
SOURCEWEBZINE – Will the band film a video for any of the songs off the album?
Christianna (V) – Coming up with a video clip is actually one of the band’s priorities at the moment! We are now at the terms of deciding which songs are the ones to be chosen for our videoclips but still haven’t made our final decision. I trust that “Killing my Dreams” is absolutely gonna be one of them! We are anxious to see our music visualized and therefore eager to make sure of a lovely result!
SOURCEWEBZINE – A lot of bands are more respected in other countries than their homeland. How is unleashed received in Greece?
Christianna (V) – Now you reminded me the situation with EXCITER, who are truly well-known in all over the globe but in their country (Canada) they are extremely unknown. Hopefully that is not happening in Greece which is our homeland. If you are working hard and honest then your name will be spread in the whole country.
SOURCEWEBZINE – What are you doing in your time outside the band? Do you work something to pay your bills or you are doing only things connected with music?
Johnny Zero (G) – Since most of us have music or sound engineering degrees, our work outside the band luckily has to do with music again… We are very grateful to be able to make a living out of something we cherish so much.
SOURCEWEBZINE ? Does your band make money by touring and selling merchandise or by selling CDs?
Christianna (V) – Since our debut album is now being released we are not aiming in money but in promotion. Promotion is the key for everything. So, we are trying just to cover our expenses for the time being…
SOURCEWEBZINE – The scene in Greece has been emerging in many ways lately, with many different forms of metal. How do you like the metal coming out of Greece lately, and where are some of your favorite places to play?
Christianna (V) – It is truly with great joy that we indeed see the Greek scene making its way up the metal ladder lately, I think following the example of Rotting Christ and Septic Flesh it is now time for a lot of remarkable bands to flourish. We wish Elysion is one of them. As for our favorite places to play… I guess we feel equally ecstatic regardless of where we play or of how big our crowd is. Performing live is our favorite thing to do and we seize any opportunity given because this is what we truly want to do with our lives!
SOURCEWEBZINE – Can you write us something more about living in Greece?
Johnny Zero (G) – Greece is one of the most beautiful places to be when it comes down to holidays. As for everyday life, the most worth-mentioning thing is always the warmth and the friendliness of people… I think Greek and Brazilian people have a lot in common, for one thing we are both raised under hot sun and near blue waters.
SOURCEWEBZINE – What is your most prized possession (not including family or pets)?
Johnny Zero (G) - It is not an object… To me it’s my sense of hearing. I would rather be blind for the rest of my life than to one day wake up being unable to hear. Music is most precious gift life has granted me with and I would definitely be dead if deprived of it.
SOURCEWEBZINE – What do you say about the Brazilian metal scene and do you have any favorites among the Brazilian metalbands ?
Christianna (V) – I think Brazil has always had a lot to offer to the metal scene, both in the way of forming great bands but also in being a great audience. Personally I love numerous bands, especially some of the ones emerging in the last years, for instance I like SEPULTURA, ANDRE MATOS (and all his projects of course ANGRA, VIPER, SHAMAN) and TORTURE SQUAD very much, I have been following their work for some years and think they have a lot to offer.
SOURCEWEBZINE – What kind of feedback have you gotten so far internationally, especially from Brazil, since this interview is mainly for a Brazilian webzine?
Christianna (V) – So far, feedback from abroad has been excellent, which is one of the reasons why we are now making the finals arrangements for our international touring. We sure hope to manage and get a chance to someday play for you and your wonderful people!
SOURCEWEBZINE – Any final thoughts?
Christianna (V) – I would like to thank you for this amazing interview! Continue your great job! What is mainly in our minds at the time is a whole lot of enthusiasm for our tours to follow, the whole anticipation of communicating our music best way we can and experiencing all this beautiful energy when being on stage!
Johnny Zero (G) – I want to thank you too for your time and support in ELYSION! Wish that our SILENT SCREAM makes its way to reaching you…
