CREMATORY

SOURCEWEBZINE – After several albums, do the musical ideas still flow strong?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – After 19 years of experience it isn’t really easier to compose songs that keep in mind than it was on our first albums. But on our way we have found our own style. We are a creative team which still has tons of ideas to realize.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Can you tell our readers how this new album “Infinity” was developed and how much time the band has put in this album?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – It’s always difficult to compose and create songs in a team of four persons. On the new album “Infinity” we worked in the same line-up as on the last albums “Klagebilder” and “Pray”. The composing team was our producer Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner, our guitarist Matze and me. The lyrics where written like always by our singer Felix.
In a project like the album “Infinity” each one tries to include his own ideas. But we have always been team-players and after a couple of argues and sleepless nights we found a common way to create a fabulous album for infinity! The time-question is quiet funny because we are working on songs nearly each minute we find some time. We started the composing in February and kept on working on the songs all the time. But if you add the time we have worked about three months on the album.
SOURCEWEBZINE – What’s the status of your next album?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – If you mean what status it has in our own evolution: it is our most professional and perfected album we have ever created and the fans will love that.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Why did you decide to cover Depeche Mode’s “Black Celebration” for your album “Infinity” ?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – Because it is one of my favorite songs, it hasn’t been covered very often and its title fits perfectly to CREMATORY. But the most important thing was that we had a great idea how to create a great Gothic Rock’n Roll version in our own, well known style.
SOURCEWEBZINE – I’d like to know which are the countries where you have more fans and following, besides Germany.
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – This is difficult to say because the album sales do not really show where our fans are. All I can say is that we have fans all around the world which makes us very proud! At this point I need to thank all the fans for their support. They are the reason why we keep on making music!
SOURCEWEBZINE – What have been the high and low points of your musical career so far?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – The absolute low was the decision to suspend the band in 2000. The high was our comeback in 2003. We had a lot of highs in our career and the reason for those are our fans all around the world! We are fucking thankful for their support! They decide how big a band gets and how long it exists. We have to thank our fans – the best fans on earth!
SOURCEWEBZINE – Are you able to make a living with music, or do you have a day job?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – We all have day jobs. We used to make live with our music but after our reunion we decided to keep our ‘normal’ jobs and to handle our music as a kind of hobby that fills our whole free time.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Nowadays people are often talking of music piratism. What are your opinions about downloading music from the internet?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – My personal opinion is that the so called fans who download music illegal from the internet aren’t really fans because they hurt the bands more than they think. Bands live from the CD sales and those ‘fans’ steel money that belongs to the musicians. Many more bands would be able to make their lives out of music if the illegal downloads would be eliminated.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Do have any numbers on how much your albums have sold worldwide ?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – I can’t tell you exactly. But I think that all in all, adding CD-sales and downloads, we have disposed about one million units. Maybe it are more but it is impossible to count the illegal downloads.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Could you tell us something about you self, do you have a family and what do you do for a living?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – Well, as you might know Katrin the keyboard-player and me are married. We have two daughters, six and two years old, who always are with us when we are on tour.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Any plans of coming to the Brazil ?
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – We’d love to play in Brazil and whole South America. If you know a promoter who wants to book us for a couple of shows just tell him to contact us.
SOURCEWEBZINE – Thank you again for your time, and if you would like to add something more, please do.
Markus Jüllich (Drums/Programmings) – For our 20th band-anniversary in February 2011 we will release a greatest hits CD and DVD with all our hits and video-clips as well as live-concerts and a lot of not released specials. It will be the “crème de la crème” of our band-history and a must-have for our fans. We’ll also accomplish an expanded greatest-hits-tour with a couple of surprises. No one should miss it!
