One Way Mirror

SOURCE – One Way Mirror’s newest release Capture drops on February, 2015. What can fans of One-Way Mirror expect from the upcoming release?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – A Rock/Metal catchy album! It’s not that easy to describe your own music but some people say that Capture is our best album. Some powerful songs with melodies that you can sing while you’re going into a party!

SOURCE – How long did you spend in the studio for this album?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – We recorded everything everything in our own Studio, the Dome Studio. So we didn’t feel any pressure about the recording. We had time to work on it with a precise idea of the production. It took around 4 or 5 weeks.

SOURCE – Which Capture songs are you most proud of?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – It’s complicated to say as I enjoyed listening to all the songs! I really like Warnings which is really different from the rest of the album. We worked with Antonin Pierre (Tonus) for the electro parts of this one and we were surprised by the result. I guess it’s a great mid-tempo song. A kind of ballad with a mecanical rhythm. I also really like the song We Love To Complain which is more progressive and epic.

SOURCE – How was the video shoot for Stinkin’ Of Gold?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – Tiring! REALLY! You know, we did everything by our own! We first shot the musicians. Then we built a structure with a metallic structure, ligths and screens. It looks like a big screens cage actually. It took one day to build that part. We shot everything in 2 days and no sleep! We make it in a hudge empty room and believe me, it was freezing! Anyway, we worked hard and we were bit serious this time, haha! Finaly I like the result!

SOURCE – When you are off tour or not making music what are you doing? Do you work at another job or is music it?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – Right now we’re never off! Always on the rush with One-Way Mirror. We really want to give the maximum chances to this band. It’s a project with our best friends and we’re really passioned.

Actually everybody in the band works in the music. My brother and I have a recording studio. Our singer is also a music producer and a photographer. I’m actually also a photographer. Our drummer Clement is a drum teacher in a music school. Perdi the bassist is the only one in the band who works in another branch beside he’s teaching the bass. He works with nuclear surgery machines. It looks very interesting but pretty dangerous! He’d better not confuse his glass of wine and the liquid he uses in these machines, haha!

SOURCE – If you could sum up one Way Mirror’s career thus far in three words, what would they be?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – Friends, Party, Work.

SOURCE – What does the band listen to for inspiration while writing new material, both metal and nonmetal (if any)?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – We all have different influences… but I guess that all of us love some really cool bands from the 80’s, like Micheal Jackson, TOTO, Genesis, Depeche Mode.

But we also love Rock and Metal bands like Metallica, Pantera, Faith No More, Papa Roach… Everything that sounds good, with good melodies.

SOURCE – Can you describe the state of Metal today in France? What different kinds of music do your citizens seem to enjoy most?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – The Metal in France is getting bigger every year. We have a really big festival called the Hellfest (around 150.000 people) and most of the biggest bands of the world came there. I guess this push small bands to be serious, and it gives them a real goal, as each and every band wants to play there.

On an other side, the big medias never talk about this kind of music. It’s very rare to hear a Metal bands on a national radio during the day, or on Tv when everybody still wake up! Medias in France focus more on artists like Rihanna, Gaga and Frenchy French artists, haha!

SOURCE – Metal is sometimes known to be a very negative type of music. Does the band write better in that positive mindset?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – We’re absolutely positive in the composing and the writting. Even if sometimes we have negative thoughs, like everybody.

Metal is just music with a strong image. People who don’t know Metal music can see the Devil in every eyes of Metal heads! But it’s not true, hopefully, hehe!

We don’t want to give any negative message to our listeners. We really enjoy if they have a good time and a big smile when they listen to our music. We always have fun all together when we compose, record or tour… So we want our fans to be in the same mood when they play our songs!

SOURCE – Any final words?

Franck Potvin (Rhythm guitars, Backing vocals) – Don’t drink the fluorescent liquid! Thanks a lot for your support and stay tuned!
