Brief:
Brazilian female thrash metal power trio THE DAMNNATION have announced their second studio album, ‘Eyes of Despair’, via Shinigami Records. The record follows their acclaimed 2022 release ‘Way of Periditon’ and promises to deliver an even more intense and emotionally raw experience.
Defined as “an album with plenty of anger expressed from the lungs,” ‘Eyes of Despair’ delivers weight, melody, and lyrics that echo situations of despair, fear, the unknown, injustice, femicide, isolation, loneliness, and our growth as human beings.
THE DAMNNATION took a bold approach to ‘Eyes of Despair’, delivering a sound with a more traditional feel but without neglecting some modern elements. On this album, the band invited women from the Brazilian metal scene, as seen on the track “Battlefield,” which is a cry for freedom and equality. An anthem of despair, with weight and power, it also features vocalist Opus Mortis (ex-Paradise in Flames). “Evilness” features vocalist Daniela Serafim (Invisible Control). Another standout track is the ballad “Already Dead Inside,” featuring Mayara Puertas (Torture Squad). The band’s focus was to try new ideas and risks composing for the first time a song with clean vocals and light orchestrations.
Based in São Paulo, Brazil, THE DAMNNATION is a power trio formed in 2019 by vocalist and guitarist Renata Petrelli. Currently, the band features Fernanda Lessa (bass, backing vocals) and Camila Almeida (drums, backing vocals).
In 2020, they released their four-track EP titled ‘Parasite,’ which conveys a furious fist of old-school heavy metal meets the heaviness of thrash metal. It won 9th place among the best EPs released in 2020, according to a poll on the website Metal Injection. There were 40 titles in the poll, and the female power trio proved once again that ‘Parasite’ is one of the best albums released in 2020, representing Brazilian metal. The track ‘Parasite’ also made it onto Spotify’s official “Thrashers” playlist.
Their second studio album, ‘Eyes of Despair,’ was released on September 19th via Shinigami Records, with a launch show at La Iglesia in São Paulo on October 10th. The band will announce more tour dates for their new album ‘Eyes of Despair’ soon.
