Wolves At The Gate

SOURCE – Over the years, your sound has evolved significantly. What would you say are the most notable differences between this album and your earliest work, “Wasteland”?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – The biggest difference would be that we are no longer afraid to write a song that carries a traditional song structure. We also don’t feel the need to put every single riff and guitar lead that we can think of into every song.

SOURCE – How do you hope listeners interpret the album’s central theme? Do you prefer they find their own meaning, or is there a specific message you aim to communicate?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – I hope that people can see the emptiness of selfish and lawless living, that it is full of empty promises that take from you rather than give to you. And that although there is a reason to fear death, there is hope in the gospel through Jesus to be saved from the sting of death.

SOURCE – How much time did you allocate to pre-production in comparison to the actual recording process?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – Pre-production took much longer than the actual recording process. It required a lot of time to craft the songs and shape them in a way that delivered the vibe and feel we were aiming for.

SOURCE – Every album presents its own challenges. What were the most significant frustrations you encountered during the creation of this one?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – The most challenging aspect of this album was writing the narrative in full and then thinking about how to tell the story through songs. It was difficult to decide which parts of the story were necessary to tell through the music and which elements lent themselves to what makes a good song.

SOURCE – Do you believe fans of your previous albums will embrace this new direction, or are you anticipating a mix of reactions?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – You never know for sure, but I think our fans will appreciate the ways we are growing and expanding our sound.

SOURCE – Music videos have become an essential element of album promotion. How do you view their impact in supporting this release?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – We’ve always wanted music videos to serve as an extension of the messages within the songs. With the videos for Wasteland, we were excited to expand upon that idea by creating short films to coincide with the tracks and help tell the story.

SOURCE – The album cover of “Wasteland” is often the first visual fans encounter. What message or emotion were you hoping the artwork would convey?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – We wanted the album art to evoke the world we are building with Wasteland. There’s a lot that an album cover can communicate that songs cannot, so we were really happy with how it turned out.

SOURCE – In what ways has technology influenced your approach to music production on this album compared to your earlier work?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – The major way that technology has influenced our approach to music production is the ease of file sharing, advances and accessibility in recording technology, and easy ways to connect and communicate from afar. We live all over the country (New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, California, and Indiana) and so collaborating would have been impossible without those forms of technology. It enabled us to record from our home studios and then compile all the tracks to get mixed.

SOURCE – Social media has become an indispensable tool for modern artists. How did you leverage these platforms to promote the album before and after its release?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – The importance of social media is undeniable, though it often feels manufactured and inauthentic. We hope to use it simply as a tool to connect with fans in a unique and personal way—and to let them know how they can support us.

SOURCE – What were your expectations regarding how the audience would receive the new album, and how do you feel about the feedback so far?

Nick Detty (Lead vocals, Keyboards) – We always try to avoid setting expectations, so we don’t measure our “success” in shallow ways. So far, we’re incredibly grateful for how well the new songs have been received.
