SOURCE – During the band’s hiatus, what artistic activities did the musicians pursue?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – During our hiatus from 2011 to 2017, we each explored different creative paths. I (Jami) embarked on a year-long journey around the world and experimented with various musical projects. I sang on a few rock tracks with Electric Pollution and released a couple of songs under the name NFORE. Joni Borodavkin established Hellhole Studios and also released music with his band Ludicrous, exploring different sonic territories. Jani stayed active by performing with different lineups and projects, keeping his guitar skills sharp. When we finally came back together in 2017, Joni produced our comeback single “Stay” at his studio, bringing fresh production techniques to our sound. Everyone contributed new experiences and perspectives gained from their individual journeys.
SOURCE – In 2025, the band has released several singles, including “Too Far Apart” and “Burning Alive.” Does this signal a new album?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – Yes, absolutely! We’ve released five tracks in 2025: “Too Far Apart,” which also included “In Eternal Sea,” plus “Burning Alive,” “Lost,” and “Dreamless.” This definitely signals a new album. We’re releasing a new song every 6–8 weeks while crafting our fourth full-length album—our first in 15 years. We’re building momentum and allowing each song to breathe while shaping the complete work.
SOURCE – With how the music industry has changed, how do you now set expectations for a new album?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – The industry is completely different from 2010. We’re focusing on consistent single releases to maintain streaming momentum rather than dropping everything at once. We’re not taking ourselves too seriously but are working to get our music out through social media channels. The feedback so far has been very positive. Success isn’t just about chart positions anymore—it’s about playlist placements, engagement metrics, and building a sustainable connection with fans through regular content.
SOURCE – How would you assess the reception of singles like “Too Far Apart” and “Burning Alive”?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – The response has been incredibly encouraging. Our tracks have earned strong placements on Spotify’s curated Metallia Suomesta playlist, and “Burning Alive” even received radio airplay. Our core fanbase has embraced the return to our darker, more atmospheric sound. Streaming numbers are growing steadily, and we’re seeing engagement from both longtime fans and new listeners discovering us through playlists.
SOURCE – The band’s last album, Remains of the Day, was released in 2010. How would you assess its reception?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – Remains of the Day was a pivotal album for us. “Star Parade” became an enduring anthem that fans still request today. The album showcased our evolution and artistic maturity. We closed that era with a headline show at Tavastia in March 2011. It left fans wanting more, which made our return even more meaningful when we played the John Smith Rock Festival in 2018.
SOURCE – The band released three albums that were well received by the media and seemed to be on a stable career trajectory. What led to the hiatus?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – We had many amazing years touring all over Finland, and after extensive touring, it was time to step back. After eight intense years and three albums, we needed to recharge both creatively and personally. The music industry was changing rapidly, and rather than forcing something that didn’t feel authentic, we chose to pause. It wasn’t about problems within the band—it was about preserving what made End of You special by taking time to live, experience, and find new inspiration.
SOURCE – The previous albums were released in a very different music industry landscape. How do you plan to promote the new album in today’s environment, centered on social media and streaming platforms?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – We’re adapting while staying true to our core. It’s been a huge learning curve, but fun at the same time. Yesterday, I even made a video where I spelled two of our new song titles wrong! But we’re learning. We’re using targeted digital campaigns, focusing on Spotify playlist placements like Metallia Suomesta, and building engagement through consistent content. Each new single has its own campaign with landing pages, pixel tracking for retargeting, and strategic social media pushes. We’re also leveraging our 20+ year history—our established fanbase gives us credibility that cuts through the digital noise. It’s all about small steps and learning along the way. We’re not perfect at it yet, but we’re improving!
SOURCE – What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Jami Pietilä (Vocals) – We’ll continue our single-release strategy throughout 2025, dropping new songs every 6–8 weeks. We’re also working on getting back on stage for some gigs. The goal is to have the full album ready for 2026, marking our return with a complete artistic statement. We have some exciting plans for 2026—let’s see how they develop. We’re also exploring collaborations and special projects to celebrate this new chapter of End of You.
