For I Am King

SOURCE – I absolutely loved Crown. It touches on a wide range of musical genres but is really hard to pin down. How would you describe it?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – Hi thank you so much for this interview 😀 Often we get categorized as a “metalcore” band but I would say a combination of metalcore and melodic death metal.

SOURCE – With this new album and a renewed interest in the band, do you feel like you now have a new lease on life or perhaps a second chance to reintroduce yourself to older fans as well as pick up newer/younger fans?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – I think both, yes. When we started writing ‘Crown’, it was at the end of 2019, a very successful and busy year for us as a band. As we entered 2020, it was already on our schedule to play less shows and focus on writing our 3rd album, but the isolation and obligated distance made it hard for us to keep in touch with our fans and friends and each other. So with ‘Crown’ we really hope to get back on track and let our hearts beat fast again. This is what we love to do and hope that we can share this with as many metalheads as possible, ‘Crown’ could hopefully be a way to do that!

SOURCE – Tell us about the new track Liars and the video you shot for it.

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – ‘Liars’ is the first single that we released from this coming album, it represents both us as a band being back again, harder than ever and the situation that we are living in right now, we are responsible for our own future so we have to take responsibility for our own actions.

For the video we wanted to keep it simple and let the music speak for itself. We love how the video turned out, by our friend Madame (s)Perling from Rock Steady Visual.

SOURCE – What types of goals do you set within For I Am King at this point in the band’s career? Are there other bucket list items or things you wish to achieve over the coming years?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – Mainstage Wacken! That would be a dream come true. We’ve already played at Wacken twice and it’s been magical.

For now the goal is to release our album ‘Crown’ successfully and to share our album with the rest of the world. In my opinion ‘Crown’ is our best work so far, we wrote this album together in an insecure and crazy time and for me that makes it even more special.

SOURCE – How much did the pandemic change your outlook on life as a person? Do you believe your priorities and what’s important to you has changed as a result?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – For me it was a very precious time, I discovered new hobbies, finally had the time and sense to read more books, get to know some of my friends and family members better. I am very grateful for this. Speaking for us as a band the pandemic was hard to stay focused and to keep motivated, making music and being a part of FIAK is something we do best when we are together, and when we play shows, where we can share all the energy and love with each other and our fans. Not being able to do this changed the importance and priority of the band. This is what we are aiming to find again with the release of ‘Crown’ and being together more on and off the stage.

SOURCE – What concerns do you have about the world we live in, and what do you think the average person should concentrate on to make the world a better place?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – Very good question and hard to answer for everyone.
If you read the lyrics of ‘Crown’ you’ll see that this is something that we are concerned about. On this album we speak about a “King”, who is responsible for his own actions and deeds, so he should take his responsibility. For the average person I can not decide because I am not aware of their situation, but start by small things like be nice to each other more often, don’t throw waste on the streets, be more loving to mother earth and the animals, love and let love, these are little and logical things that unfortunately not everyone does.

SOURCE – Do you believe the instant communication technology that exists with the proliferation of social media platforms has been a stronger benefit for bands like yourselves to increase your global reach beyond what the record label can provide for promotion/publicity?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – Social media is very important for bands and a fun way to share more about the band beside the music. A label can provide different goals and audiences for you as an artist. I think both are important to increase global reach.

SOURCE – Thanks again for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my questions. I really appreciate it. Is there anything else you would like to add?

Alma Alizadeh (Vocals) – Thank you again for this interview, Love and STAY METAL!
