GGGOLDDD

SOURCE – GGGOLDDD started in 2011 – tell us about the formation of this band, and did you know straight away the style of rock you wanted to develop or did things develop organically over time?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – Milena and I started the band in 2011 just wanting to make music together. I was just out of The Devil’s Blood and looking back I can conclude that I felt very much attached to that scene when we wrote our first album. In those 10 years we developed a lot, and really found our own sound. 10 years ago it would’ve been impossible for us to predict how we would sound now. And it’s impossible to know how we would sound 10 years from now.

SOURCE – This Shame Should Not Be Mine is the fifth album for GGGOLDDD. Where do you see the major differences in terms of the compositions and playing for this record compared to Why Aren’t You Laughing? recorded from 2019?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – We’ve been wanting to experiment with electronics for many years. The pandemic gave us the opportunity to do this. And we went all out. Where guitars were instrumental on our previous albums, synthesizers drive the sound of ‘This Shame Should Not Be Mine’.

SOURCE – Which tracks for This Shame Should Not Be Mine came the easiest to you, and which ones do you believe took a little more time to develop and refine until they reached completion?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – “I Won’t Let You Down” was written very easily, both musically and lyrically. Which is interesting as it is the longest song on the album :D. The title track took us much longer. We had different versions, but only found the right one after we had debuted the other songs at Roadburn Redux.

SOURCE – The new video for the Notes on How to Trust came out recently – is it an easy process to decide what track(s) to promote the record, especially one such as this?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – Yeah, it’s not that hard. We thought this would be the right song to release first. And our label and management agreed. So that was a quick and smooth decision.

SOURCE – How important has it been to inject the songwriting with diverse influences – as you have a rock base, but add in everything from black to folk and alternative elements beyond to keep the songs fresh and dynamic?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – We just make the music that we find interesting ourselves. We don’t want to make something that’s already out there. We really love music in many forms and that’s what you hear in our own songs. We don’t see ourselves in a certain limited way.

SOURCE – What worries you most about the world that we live in today, especially coming out of the global pandemic? Where do you think the average person needs to put more time, energy, and effort into to make the world a better place overall?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – There’s a lot to worry about. Misinformation and disillusion are key elements in a lot of the big problems that we face as humanity. The biggest problem of all probably is climate change. If we don’t act quickly on that, we don’t have much to live for or fight over in the near future.

SOURCE – What would surprise people to learn about Milena Eva away from the music as far as your personality or hobbies/interests you may have away from your musician activities?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – Many people think that she’s the vocalist of GGGOLDDD and only that. But she’s actually the main songwriter who’s responsible for a lot of the music of the band. This is not a surprise to us, and should not be a surprise to you. But we learned that due to how people are programmed to view women in this patriarchal society, still a lot of people don’t expect this.

SOURCE – What’s the message you want to bring out?

Thomas Sciarone (Guitars, electronics) – See the complexity in your fellow humans and understand that none of us are alone.
