SOURCE – Through the Void of Nihil is the second Palesloth album. Outside of working on a record during an unprecedented pandemic atmosphere, where do you see the specific differences or outlook on this set of material that sets things apart from other albums?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – Pandemic itself didnt affected that much to our work or way to do things on this record. Of course it boosted some core feelings to the songs which are quite lonely, nihilistic and and dark atmospheric at some points. If we compare this album to earlier stuff you can clearly hear that things have changed quite much from those times. We want to keep update ourselves record to record, time after time, so next album will be again little bit different than the current one.

SOURCE – Is there a certain technique or gear that you think really makes your sound unique, or something new you explored on Through the Void of Nihil?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – To this record our drummer Joonas bought whole new drum set from the finnish manufacturer KUMU which made huuuuge difference to the whole drum sound. Those big fat bastards sounds incredible. Of course we had some new tricks on guitars and stuff but maybe the main big change was the studio where we chose to do this record. Big thanks to Teemu Aalto who is the actual wizard behind the knobs.

SOURCE – With the current sad state of the music industry, how do you determine expectations for an album?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – To be honest, we don’t really care about the industry and we do this mainly for ourselves. We expected to cook a good album. That’s all.

SOURCE – Did you film any video for the album Through the Void of Nihil?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – Nope.

SOURCE – Streaming has recently surpassed downloads as the main source of revenue in music. Do you think it can sustain the industry?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – Streaming gives bands much more greater opportunity to share music for wider masses, but at the same time they pouring urine on bands cereals, if you know what I mean.

SOURCE – When it comes to indulging in music as a consumer, not as a songwriter, what have you been listening to lately?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – Well, some oldies & goldies like Pantera, Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd. And of course some newer stuff like Primitive Man, Russian Circles, YOB, Satanic Warmaster, MGLA, Decapitated etc.

SOURCE – We all know the global pandemic had a major impact on the entertainment industry. How did you handle things in that downtime, and how do you think humanity as a whole will be coming out of this?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – For us, the downtime didn’t nothing mainly because we were at some sort of turtle mode at the time and we just stayed inside our caves and focused on songwriting, recordings and stuff. No gigs, no worries.

Which one was more unfortunate time in human history, WWI & WWII or pandemic? I think that as humanity we don’t have to crawl outside of nothing, because nothing big happened.

SOURCE – Do you have a message for your followers?

Tuomas Lautanen (Vocals) – Don’t follow us, follow yourself.
