SET YOUR SAILS

SETYOURSAILS

SOURCE –For those out of the loop, can you bring everyone up to speed on the past few years of SETYØURSAILS?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – The band was founded in 2017 by Jules and Andre. After a short while, Pascal and I joined and we were ready to record our first album and hit the stage for the very first time together. After a quite turbulent year of 2019, we got our first record deal and started working on our second album nightfall, which will be released on 21.01.2022. During this process, we landed the deal with Napalm Records, which makes us not just happy but incredibly proud.

SOURCE – What was the writing and recording process like for the new record, and did COVID interfere in any way with getting it done and released?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – For our new record, the writing process usually takes place between Jules and Andre. One of them comes up with an idea, either a catchy and melodic chorus or a hard-hitting guitar riff. Then these two start building that whole song around it. COVID interfere the process of writing the lyrics, because during the pandemic and all the time you spend with just a few people or maybe by yourself lets you go deeper into your soul and sometimes brings something back to the surface. The Release of Nightfall was heavily affected by the pandemic but we are more than happy that the waiting will soon be over.

SOURCE -The new record Nightfall is a further continuation of broadening musical parameters that started with the last album. What makes you comfortable, and, at the same time, uncomfortable about widening musical scope?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – Let’s start with the negative aspect of it; there is none. For us development, writing new songs, improve ourselves and learn new things is what makes us musicians. We are very proud of the steps we made and it shows, there is more to come.

SOURCE – Of all the singles you released leading up to the album release, which do you personally think might have had the biggest impact on your success?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – I personally think that our Single ‘Mirror’ might bring us further than any other single, because this Song holds the balance between straight forward hardcore, and an almost pop-like melodic choruses. In these times, quite a lot people mentioned that they can identify with the words being sung an shouted, so yeah, mirror would be my guess.

SOURCE – The band’s last album, Nightfall (comment by DOMINIC – you mean ‘Enough’ album?), got a well-received response. Was the band surprised at the publicity that album got?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – Actually yes, it is very rare ,I guess, that a band gets such an overwhelming response for its first ever release. But maybe that hard and unpolished ‘diamond’ was just the right thing in the right time.

SOURCE – Which aspect of your albums are you most proud of?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – We as a band are most proud of the leap we took with new release.
We are proud to show it to anyone out there like hey look we sat done and made an, in our minds, outstanding piece of music for you to enjoy!

SOURCE – What can you say about the video for Ghosts and Mirror?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – We had a blast, a very fun and incredibly productive time with our good friend Peter Leukhardt who shot these videos.

Ghosts was shot in an old, left factory building in East Germany, everything was so dusty, worn down and the nature started to reclaim the hole areal.
A very well known but small music-hall in cologne was used for the video shoot of ‘Mirror’

SOURCE – Anything else you’d like to mention or promote?

Dominic Ludwig (Bass) – What else can I say? Our album comes out in 21st of January and we hope that y’all like it as much as we do.
