Bands You Need to Know Now – August 2020

HINAYANA

Austin, Texas-based melodic death-doom metal unit HINAYANA have been turning heads in the metal scene since their formation in 2014, starting out as a one-man band spearheaded by frontman Casey Hurd. Now, after releasing their crushing 2018 full-length Order Divine and subsequently securing the attention of Napalm Records, HINAYANA are poised to release their next musical offering – the crushing Death Of The Cosmic EP – set for release on August 28, 2020.

RESERVING DIRTNAPS

Since their 2013 formation, RESERVING DIRTNAPS has expelled their harsh alloy of death metal/grind influences and breakdown-strewn metallic hardcore, inspired by the likes of Hatebreed, Cold As Life, Death Threat, Merauder, and Napalm Death. The band released their self-titled EP in March 2014 and instantly began to pick up across their local region, playing live regularly.

2016 saw the release of their second EP, Part II, as the band began to hit on a more widespread national level, performing well beyond their local scene. Their busiest year yet, 2019 saw RESERVING DIRTNAPS touring throughout the year on multiple tours across the country alongside the likes of Capitol Offense, Purgatory, Paper Trail, No Option, Kharma, Adrenaline, and others, which led them to the doorstep of WAR Records. This new cooperation led to the creation of the band’s most brutal material yet, their impending Another Disaster EP.

FIXATION

Fixation is a new hard rock band from Norway just breaking through. Their impressive new EP “Global Suicide” consists of four massive, hard-hitting rock songs that cross over with metalcore. With their social criticisms, heavy riffs, massive melodic synths and impressive talent, Fixation are set to make a big name for themselves!

Heavy soundscapes, catchy melodies, and impressive vocals hit hard on Fixations’ debut EP, where every track is an instant hit. The mixture of heavy guitars and massive synths showcases the influence of bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Nothing But Thieves and Architects. Many hours of hard work and perfectionism lie behind this EP as it was important for the band to create a basis that they could continue building around. To guarantee a massive sound, Jason Livermore (Rise Against, Carnival Kids, etc.) mixed and mastered the record, ensuring that “Global Suicide” would be a veritable punch to the gut.

Their lyrics focus on important subjects like the climate crisis, political injustice and mental health. While encouraging and supporting those who struggle, their message shows that they are tired of the greedy, selfcentred way that many world leaders act and how so many of them disregard equality and basic human rights. On this EP, Fixation reflect upon the state of today’s society while focusing on where they feel we need to take drastic action. Hence the title of the EP, “Global Suicide”.

MORBID COAL

Melancholic and evil, violent and soft, emotional and powerful, complex and with a slight touch of musical drama. A new sound of progressive metal combining heavy grooves, haunting dissonant guitar lines and pop melodies. Adding some darker sounds and the focused use of complexity it can burst into nasty guitar riffs.

KILL THE LIGHTS

Heavy music exists independent of eras, trends, and borders. It resonates worldwide on the most primal and natural level. Kill The Lights similarly transcend creative and physical boundaries.

Uniting original Bullet For My Valentine co-founder Michael “Moose” Thomas [drums] with Throw The Fight frontman James Clark [vocals], Jordan Whelan of Still Remains [guitar], and Travis Montgomery of Threat Signal [guitar], the group seamlessly bring a shared vision to life. The quintet imprint tried-and-true metal with 21st century fire on their Fearless Records full-length debut, The Sinner.
