SOURCE – It seems a new band is presented to us every month that looks and sounds the same. What sets you apart and makes you different?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – I think what makes Besvärjelsen stand out from other rock bands is that we take influence from many different genres and we have found a way to make the mash work. Myself I don’t really think in terms of rock when writing melodies. When I started singing it was thru soul and pop music so I take a lot of my influences from those kinds of artists.

SOURCE – Congratulations on your new record Astra, I feel that this is perhaps your best record ever, how do you feel about this statement?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – Thank you! I truly think Atlas is our best work up to date. It was written during the pandemic and the solitude definitely added to the work. There was no rush since we where not playing live so we had time to really play with the music, wich worked out great in the end.

SOURCE – With the current sad state of the music industry, how do you determine expectations for an album?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – We really wanted to make an album that felt like a journey. A lot in the music industry now is about just making hits and producing one song to make viral. The whole charm of making an album that you listen to as a whole has sometimes gone away. So we are happy to have created this piece and we are blown away by the positive response of Atlas.

SOURCE – Was this approach different on Atlas compared to Vallmo?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – For Vallmo we set out to make an album, with Atlas it was more like, well we cant do anything else at this point because of covid. So we didn’t really feel the same pressure in the making.

SOURCE – Did you film any videos for the album Atlas?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – Yes, for Atlas we released three videos. First “Digerliden”, then “Clouds” and finally “The Cardinal Ride”. If you watch the videos together you will find a theme. For me Atlas is about breaking away from shit that drags you down and the videos tie together the feeling I wanted to present. From burying an aching heart, to being reborn in fire and finally just giving in to indulgence and lust.

SOURCE – In Brazil there’s much fans listening your kind of music. What do you know about the Brazil?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – I actually know alot about Brazil! In 2016 I spent a few months traveling from Rio to Sao Paolo with stops along the way in different cities. Best time of my life. I love Brazil and it really changed my life for the better being there. Got to meet great people, I heard so much great music, ate amazing food and saw the most beautiful places in the world. My biggest wish is to go back some day. Hopefully we can come play in Brazil! That would be amazing!

SOURCE – What are your thoughts on social media and the connection you have with the fans – is it a blessing as well as a curse sometimes when it comes to keeping the brand of the band top of mind?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – It’s hard! Social media is a great way to connect and spread music, but I think we can all agree that we suck at having a great presence there. I admire bands that are good at social media and posting fun stuff, we are really bad at gathering for fun pictures when we hang out and to post all the in between stuff.

SOURCE – Is there anything else you have going on?

Lea Amling Alazam (vocals) – We are nominated for “Metal of the Year” at the swedish Manifestgalan, which is like the grammys for indie labels here, so thats a big thing. Other than that we are just waiting for summer so we can go out and play and have some good times. Really looking forward to some festivals and having beer with our fans!
