SOURCE – The 13th Beast is the Thirteenth Malevolent Creation studio album. How did these recording and songwriting sessions go, and how would you compare this effort to your previous records with the group?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – This album cycle was a bit different because some of the members live outside of Florida and we used home recording to share music and record demos before recording the album as a full band. It was different for me but the new band members are all very well schooled with Malevolent Creation music and it actually came together pretty fast.

SOURCE – What qualities do you believe are important when developing and shaping the material that Malevolent Creation releases album to album?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – We just keep writing music that sounds like MC and try to be better with each release. This is our 13th full length album and we have never changed our style. We just try to be heavier with each album as always.

SOURCE – How did you end up drawing into the sights of Century Media Records?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – We signed with Century Media Records for our last album Dead Mans Path and we are still with them until they drop us. We do the best we can no matter what label we are on and I think century media is happy with what we have given them over the last 5 years.

SOURCE – Do you see the video medium being as important in the social media age as it was for those 80’s and 90’s years when Headbangers Ball was a staple on MTV?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Videos definitely help and we did 3 so far for the new album. I think people like to see videos instead of just stealing the songs off the internet. It’s a strange situation.

SOURCE – At this point, you are gaining and gaining fans but what were some of the challenges at the start of the band that you had to overcome?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Well of course it took us a few albums to make our name known in the death metal world and we did a lot of touring to promote our early albums. We still have to tour and promote our albums so people still know we are kicking ass.

SOURCE – What do you think has kept the band going for so long? You’ve been one of the most reliable and consistent American death metal bands?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Just the love of playing extreme music for me. I love playing guitar and writing music and I want our fans to be happy with each release. We just play as hard as possible with each album.

SOURCE – What are some bad recommendations that you see musicians either young or old commit that they should avoid?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Bad record labels, bad management and not staying true to your roots. We have never put out an album that wasn’t extreme and we never will.

SOURCE – Are there any specific highlights in your music career that will stay forever in the memory banks?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Probably the release of our first album and all the touring we did for that. And all the countries we have toured over the years. It’s always exciting to play new places.

SOURCE – How would you describe the relationships and music/business outlook for Malevolent Creation at this point in your career?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Its tough these days because of illegal downloading of our albums but we will keep on putting out MC music as long as I am proud of the music we create.

SOURCE – What are your plans for 2019?

Phil Fasciana (Guitars) – Hopefully a lot of touring around the world and playing everywhere we can to spread the Malevolence. Thanks for the interview!
