SOURCE – While it’s still fresh in your mind, tell us about show in Brazil – 01/05/2023.

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – That was the last show of our Latam Tour, the biggest I suppose. It’s great memories for us, we’ve been welcomed like kings, the entire crew in Brazil has been the nicest with us, the fans were absolutely crazy, all over Latam actually, very special tour for us.

SOURCE – Karma is the latest Myrath album, the follow-up to Shehili from 2019. Can you tell us how you felt the songwriting and recording sessions went for this set of material, and did you feel confident in the direction you’ve been taking Myrath with these musicians?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – We work with more people than we usually do for this one, a lot of friends were invited in the process and we had a real good time working on Karma. First time working with Jacob Hansen for a part of the recording and mix and that was an incredible experience, we’re really happy about what he’s done with us. When we create a new album, we never know where we’re gonna go, it’s really hard to keep in mind you have to like your own songs and please your fans in the same time. You wanna keep them but you have to make new ones too. So I think we tried to kinda modernize everything a lil but in the end it’s probably the most open album in terms of sub gender, some songs are what we’re used to do, some are almost Hard FM while, 1 is really pop, a few are more modern, it’s probably a mix of everything we like.

SOURCE – What are your goals and expectations for Karma?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – Make fans happy, keep them for our next adventures, and make a lot more… with the same message about hope and happiness which is the only thing we really try to keep albums after albums.

SOURCE – With the current sad state of the music industry, how do you determine expectations for an album?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – Really hard to know, we always hope to do better, each album should be better than the previous one, sell more, etc. and it’s always been the case but you can never take that for granted cause we don’t leave the golden age of Metal at all, in terms of sales obviously, cause people are listening to Metal more and more, they go to shows and festivals, that’s not the issue here, but the sales are a serious problem nowadays. So we’re confident, positive but you never know.

SOURCE – You shot official video for Heroes – how do you believe this video shoots went, and where do you see the importance of the visual medium in garnering more attention for the band, especially in these social media platform driven times?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – We didn’t shoot much for this one as it is AI generated, we had a video clip we should have released first but for some reasons we had to change the schedule, in such short notice we had to try AI for this one. Although we like to try new things, this is not something we’ll use too much, we’re still very attached to what humans can create, no matter the time and costs sometimes. We always try to put a lot in our video clips, and more will be out very soon.

SOURCE – With making a living at music seemingly becoming more and more difficult, what steps do you believe should be taken to make things better financially for musicians?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – It seems pretty risky to put all your eggs in the same basket, in the same band, we all have different things besides Myrath, some of us have other project, some of us have other opportunities to make money, work with brands, etc… I personally have 2 other bands, I do masterclass, I work with brands too… I should do some masterclass for the biggest cymbal brand of Brazil called Domene by the way, so I should return to Brazil this year.
I live in France and musicians are particularly well protected here so I can’t complain, but there are many countries where I suppose it’s really complicated to live from your band(s).

SOURCE – What are your thoughts on the metal scene in your part of Tunisia? Are there specific styles that seem to be more appreciated than others – and is there a strong movement locally to support smaller/local bands versus the appeal of national/international acts that come through?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – Well as I’m French I’m not the best to answer that, but in 12 years I saw things moving a lil and there’s a great scene in Tunisia, once of the best crowd for us and a lot of very promising bands ! Each time we play there people come by thousands, it’s just a shame everything isn’t organized so there can be metal shows like every week, but it’s getting better and better.

SOURCE – Is there anything over here in the Brazil for Myrath as well, like a show in 2024?

Morgan Berthet (Drums) – We should have, but as we had to postpone the release of Karma, we thought if would be best to return to Latam next year, so expect us in 2025, and I can’t wait for that already! Thank you for your questions and all the best for 2024.
