Void of Sleep

SOURCE – Metaphora is your third full-length album. How do you think people are responding to it?

Gale (Guitars, Vocals) – Despite the bad period, in which we can’t play live, the album seems to be enjoying a lot, many enthusiastic reviews have come out, orders are proceeding well, even at the moment we are stuck even with shipments.

SOURCE – Just to introduce the album from your own words, can you tell me about the title of the record?

Burdo: The lyrical concept for the album is basically about the contradictions of our so called evolved society, the rekindled fear and hatred, social relations and civility in crisis, apathy and marginalization, I just laid down the lyrics trying to explain how I feel about it, and I think that everyone can find his own metaphor by reading the lyrics, that’s why the album is called Metaphora.

SOURCE – Is there a reason the album is constructed the way it is, in terms of album order and arrangement?

Gale (Guitars, Vocals) – No, this time there was no fixed order. New World Order, the last album was a concept and was composed in order, also setting the duration of the pieces, this time the songs were born freely and the succession of the songs was chosen later, trying to put in the best way songs possible based on mood and duration.

SOURCE – Can you tell me about the major themes and influences that played into the writing?

Burdo: we really have variegate musical tastes in the band, so for this reason I will not come to you with a proper list of our most influential bands, we just come with an idea and jam over it, we have a lot of influences, so actually the songs raises intricate, multi faceted but in a natural way, we love to handle all that different dynamics and find the better ways to arrange it.

SOURCE – What has been your favorite part of the sonic evolution of Void of Sleep?

Gale (Guitars, Vocals) – I can’t tell you exactly which part I like best, I can tell you that I like how our sound has evolved, I think it’s a normal evolutionary process for a band that doesn’t want to sit still and repeat the same album over and over again.

We have always been labeled as a band with a very personal sound despite the various influences, even different from each other, so we are simply expanding our horizons, trying to do what we like and stimulate us.

SOURCE – When you’re in the production role, is it hard for you not to be too critical since it’s your own music? Or is it almost the opposite of that?

Gale (Guitars, Vocals) – We entered the studio with a certain type of sound in our heads, we wanted a completely acoustic but big sounding drum, we wanted big and heavy but defined rhythmic guitars, a huge bass and a clean and clear voice, then we knew that we would have playing with effects, with solo guitar sounds, with synths and keyboards.

Then we knew that we were in the hands of two excellent professionals so we relied on their knowledge to achieve what we wanted.

SOURCE – How important do you take social media and branding to convey the message of Haunt to your fans/followers? It seems like you truly enjoy that engagement including live in the studio video clips from time to time…

Gale (Guitars, Vocals) – Honestly, it is not something that is so stimulating, but it has become necessary to promote yourself via social media, so we had to adapt.

SOURCE – As humans, what responsibility do we have to each other right now and to those who are to come in the future generations?

Gale (Guitars, Vocals) – I think unfortunately there is not much to do, certainly it would take more civic consciousness, we would have to “go back”, but I don’t think it’s possible, I mean, capitalism, consumerism, the greed of the human being have taken over, the Earth suffers and it’s slowly dying, and I don’t think it’s an arresting process.
