Alkymist

Bands You Need to Know Now – May 2020

Alkymist – Sanctuary

Danish progressive doom metal act Alkymist enters the void between heaven and hell with the release of their new album, Sanctuary. Alkymist offers the listener an immersive, spiritual, and transcendent journey. The record revolves around metaphysical questioning, soul searching, mental and cerebral escape. Sanctuary’s six tracks and two sound collages totaling forty-three minutes fully live up to the band’s eclectic vision. As on the first record, the new collection of songs is recorded and mixed by producer Lasse Ballade (Orm, Slægt, Solbrud) and the artwork created by Anders Kidmose. Good!

Obsidian Tide – Pillars of Creation

Formed in 2012 in the suburbs of Tel-Aviv, Israel, Obsidian Tide are Oz Avneya (guitars and clean vocals), Shachar Bieber (bass and harsh vocals) and Erez Nadler (drums and programming). The band’s debut EP Debris, an ambitious concept album, was released in 2015 and received critical acclaim worldwide. In August 2019, the band released their first full length album, Pillars of Creation – a 55 minutes long progressive metal masterpiece. Check out!

Lesser Glow – Nullity

Born from an ever-growing sea of noise, swirling together the sounds of humanity into a churning vat of anonymity, in which as individuals, sometimes we are drowning. In 2020 brings us Nullity, a record doused in an undeniable weightiness, with lyrics and music coexisting in the same beautiful, dynamic, and volatile space. Heavy but not excessive. Massive yet not gratuitous. Meticulous. Focused. Direct. Nullity is based around the concept of human beings existing on earth as parasites. The scope widens throughout the course of the record, touching on creation myths, existence within nature, interpersonal and internal struggles, and finishing out with the mass extinction/cleansing of mankind.

Icon of Evil – s/t

With former and current members of Evil, Infekcja, Wojtyla, Creeping Corrupt, Poltergeist, and more in its lineup, ICON OF EVIL has delivered their brand of damaging metal since forming in 2011. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Bolt Thrower, Hail Of Bullets, Asphyx, Benediction, and Massacre, the band has issued splits with The Bold And The Beautiful and The Dead Goats in addition to their 2013-released debut album, Syfilis Mentalis. On their eponymous EP, ICON OF EVIL offers two ultra-heavy new songs – “Ojcze Wasz” (Your Father In Heaven) and “Urojony Bóg” (The God Delusion). The band’s fluid delivery of their brutal, bone-crushing death metal is focused and precise. The tracks were recorded and mixed in Soundscope Studio by Jarek Wysocki in Wroclaw, Poland.
